âWe could cope with relegationâ Ian Cooper Wednesday, November 9, 2011 5:30 PM Tony Fernandes is the right man to take Rangers forward, believes Warnock Neil Warnock believes QPR are in safe hands under Tony Fernandesâ guidance â even if they are relegated in May. Rangers have taken nine points from eight games since Fernandes completed his takeover of the club in September, and their total of 12 points is almost a third of the way towards the widely regarded safety total of 40. However, impressive displays against Manchester City and Chelsea cannot disguise the fact that the win over the Blues is QPRâs only victory in six. Relegation is still a very real concern for Warnock and Fernandes, but the Rs boss believes that the chairman is the right man to handle the clubâs future whatever their fate is come May. âI think the chairman is such a positive person that, if the worst did come to the worst, the club would still go forward,â said Warnock (pictured). âI didnât think anyone could come in and do what heâs done in such a short space of time. I thought âpeople talkâ, but he doesnât talk, he gets things done. âEvery year you stay in the Premier League, you can look to make the club stronger and that stability comes from building it from the bottom. Thereâs been no thought about longevity from the previous regime, it was all about today or tomorrow.â Warnock also praised the impact of Joey Barton, who has made a solid start to his QPR career and was named captain within days of his arrival during the summer. âHe just takes over â so I might as well give him the armband,â added Warnock. âHeâs a winner, he wants to do well and heâs come down to a team thatâs not fancied, thatâs scrapping to stay in the division. âThatâs hard for someone like Joey Barton who, deep down, would like to be playing for one of the top six clubs in the country and is quite capable of doing that. âBut heâs adapted very well and I dread to think how we would have done if we hadnât signed him â he has brought that bit of mentality that we needed.â Follow me on Twitter @QPRTimes
Sorry superhoop not a gambler, does that mean they dont think we,ll get relegated.I was under the impression that we were 1 of 5 to go down.
6 teams ahead of us in the betting and Norwich and Swansea are shorter prices to go down, what do the bookies know?
It depends. I have never experienced relegation so it would be wrong to say, but once you've had a test of the PL as far as the fans and players are concerned you want to remain there. I would begrudgingly admit that I have yet to see a club cope as well with relegation as West Ham bar perhaps Newcastle. You want to build a base, and become a bigger club and I feel survival is imperative to that so I'm not sure why Warnock would say that unless it's just mind games. I personally think Norwich will be okay, jury is still out on Swansea but I rate Rodgers a lot, it may well be that 3 "established" PL clubs go down, so far it's looking that way IMO
Me neither. Although there's some big Clubs and its as tight as a Duck's ar*e, the standard of play in that Championship can be desperate at times.
Our run in is a bit daunting, need the points by the end of march or it will end up being squeeky b*m time.
Ruislip, after all the years, there are no better experts at squeaky stuff than us Rs! We're staying , where we are! I'm trying hard to be positive , 'cos I can't deal with all that relegation stuff again. Brixt, Northy, can you guys wave your authoritative Not606 Magic Wand and censor the bad R (relegation) word from now on in any future QPR posts? Ta! I appreciate it.
Good idea CorkeR! But I reckon we would cope and bounce back up again as Champions again year after if it happened
Bit difficult to ban the 'R' word round here Corks... (!) but despite the long dry summer and shakey start, the signs don't spell r********n. Here's why: - we avoided the points deduction - we got rid of the goons and neutralised paladini - we replaced them with quality onside owners - we've got a decent manager capable of riding the storms - we brought in a handfull of competent premsters, each with something to prove - our championship boys are starting to up their game - we've got Mittal and Taarabt waiting in the wings, ready to do their bit - we can expect three or four more premsters adding strength in depth come the new year ... and we got a ground-full of passionate and expectant fans who ain't about to let spirits drop. I ain't a rose tinted blindfaith jockey - but personally I can count ten to twelve clubs in this league who'd cheerfully swap places with us right now.
Bang on! My Brutha from another mutha, that seals it for me, no question of my positivity. Were staying up, and we'll win the FA Cup! Were staying up, and win the FA Cup!!!
There seems to be 4 distinct groups. At the moment we are top of the bottom group, not far off being at the bottom of the next group up. That would suit me fine ... for this year. Then onwards and upwards.
I often think about flying without without mechanical assistance but again a waste of time not going to happen! Why waste time discussing some thing that will never happen.
We are 11th and top of the bottom half of the table, as we were for a long period before, perhaps the last international break. As the PL channel splits the table in two we are shown as "top" of the league! - the bottom half caption is easy to ignore!
