"I expect nobody to leave the Club". Really? Wenger has committed £100M+ each year paying extraordinarily high Wages to attract young Players from around the world to Arsenal in the belief that they will become part of the fabric of the Club and an emotional bond will be forged. That it has spectacularly backfired is plain to see. The question is, what does he do now? Wenger has failed, and it is becoming more embarrassing by the day, his latest nugget "I don't expect anyone to leave the Club" should be his last. He should, for the sake of a great Football Club, walk. Not upstairs either
Ancelotti is free. He could start in the morning. Arsenal are a great Club playing in a great League, this question of who could replace Wenger is f****** ridculous, virtually any Coach/Manager in the World would be attracted to the post.
On the face of it high wages, but a wage bill which is only about 50 per cent of it's turnover. Man City's was over 100 per cent of it's turnover.
Goonerbegood, understand what you are saying, but it is still a huge investment that has not paid off in any sense
I think Wenger should at least go for it and get some big names in with the £70m plus available to him. This season really is touch and go whether we will get the 4th place spot, that the board wants Wenger to get. It all depends on whether Liverpool gels, if they do then it's curtains for Wenger im afraid.
I can't see Arsene going for big names. He has often said that it would prevent his young players from developing. What has concerned me is that his pursuit of his youth and indeed that long-established frugal policy has meant that the club has not been able to reach the heights of which it is capable over the past half dozen years. Surely success is more forthcoming via a mix of youth and experience. However the club's management seem reluctant to pay for experience nor bring any in on the coaching front....... Perhaps there are now moves behind the scenes. Wait and hope I suppose.
No, I don't pretend that Fabregas and Nasri are staying and all is well, I just know the Fail like to take Wenger's (anyone's) quotes out of context in order to get a front page story.
How has it failed? We've remained in the champions league year on year whilst building one of the best stadiums in the world and not bankrupting ourselves, he's an absolute genius and no one else could have done a better job.
We dont need big names, we just need quality and we need it fast. Mata would be a perfect replacement for Nasri - He's a better player. Fabregas is one of the Top 3-4 midfielders in World Football so replacing him is pretty much impossible. Therefore we should invest in Other areas like CB/LB. The thing is we have two weeks and with Mr Procrastinator in charge - that is'nt enough.
Some of you need to get a grip. The season hasn't even started yet. Whilst Fabregas and Nasri do look set to leave, you also look set to bring in some quality replacements. How about shouting 'Wenger out' when you guys actually have something to shout about.
I really do feel sorry for Wenger. 1 day to go and he still doesn't know who is going to be sold. Barcelona are still playing you about with Cesc and Man City are still playing about over Nasri. Surely he cannot buy until he knows who is going to be sold. If Nasri and Cesc are sold - both small midfield players - it might be that he will change his system and go for more height and power in midfield which would also perhaps change the style of defender he needs. If either player stays he might prefer a different style of defender especially if Eboue goes as well. At the moment Wenger cannot know what money he has to spend or what players or style of player he needs to buy. I think that the behaviour of Barcelona has been absolutely disgraceful and that Man City are now using their wealth to not only improve their squad but to also disrupt their rivals. Look at the midfielders they already have - why do they need Nasri? Looking in from the outside it seems to me that the critics are being unfair to Wenger and they should wait and see what happens in the next 3 weeks before passing judgement. Out of passing interest - why hasn't Lansbury been given a squad number?
If you are content with 2nd,3rd ,4th or this year even lower than no, it has not failed, but it has not not failed as good as United have not failed for not much more money. I don't understand why we are expected to win the league every season? Man City and Chelsea have spent absoulte fortunes and we kept up with them for most of last season whilst pretty much breaking even on the amount of money we've spent, it's a miracle really.
Manchester United are billions upon billions upon billions in debt, and the club, like Man City, has currently unsustainable expenditure. Arsene's spending now might see you guys in a much, much better position when the financial fair play rules come into force.
Actually Man United are the golden boys of the financial fair play rules seemingly. Turnover 280+ million per season, spend 140 million, Interest on Debt 40 million (or there abouts) profit 100 million per season for the fair play rules. daft i know, but there it is. (or at least thats what i read a few months back)
