....is what Spurs are prepared to pay (allegedly) http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/tottenham-launch-transfer-raid-swansea-3777939? http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/footbal...report-spurs-bid-gbp8m-for-davies_162205.html http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/tottenham-plot-8m-summer-move-swansea-city-defender-ben-davies-1454519? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...hettino-approves-Swansea-Wales-left-back.html Should we sell? What figure would you sell for? Who do you think we should get as a replacement?
Luke Shaw £31 million, Ben Davies £8 million, they're having a laugh. The sooner clubs wake up and realise that we are not a small club desperate for money the better. Put a one in front of the eight and Huw might consider it.
Do we need to sell ? no we don't ,and if we do which I hope we don't then try another 4 million on top , regardless what we value Shaw at Ben is not the finished product with still a lot to learn ,He could end up as a very good centre half as he has the attributes but nows not the time to sell imo .
Should we sell? Absolutely not What figure would you sell for? Wouldn't consider responding to an offer for anything less than £15m (and the response would still be a resounding NO) Who do you think we should get as a replacement? No one, we already have Taylor who, although a different type of player, is equally as good; and he's tamping at the bit to play.
We'd need a young understudy for Taylor though surely? Or maybe that's the role Stephen Kingsley would take should he sign
In the past necessity made us a selling club. This is no longer the case and the media and other clubs need to wake up to this fact. As far as I am concerned there are only 2 criteria to move players on (1) The player wants to leave (2) We have better options and the player is deemed surplus to requirements. In Ben Davies' s case he still has some learning about defending to do and because of this would have lot of pressure to handle from the fans at Spurs.
£8m for Davies is not a bad price but i would rather keep him and sell tailor, Davies is young and is still learning his trade and apart from a few mistakes then he has done very well since he was forced to take over the left back roll because of tailors unfortunate injury. I can understand why clubs would want him as he is showing great potential for someone so young and even though £8m is a fair price i think we could double that in a season or two time. We don't need to sell him and imo should not sell him...I don't want Tailor to go either but he cant demand that he wants more games and should work hard in training to win his place back and the two players can have an equal season depending on their form and commitment...
We don't need to sell, but it can be the case that we let a player move if we get an offer from a big club and the player wants to go. Yes, we can refuse to let a player leave, but that doesn't happen too often. So I depends on what BD wants to do and if Huw is happy with the offer. £8 million is a good offer for a player like BD. He night improve and be worth more in a few years, but he might get worse, get an injury, etc. It's not a forgone conclusion that he'll get better. You never know what the future holds. If you going to sell, the price is based on what he's worth now, not what he may be worth in the future. Future prospects can add a little, but no club's going to pay a future price before that future has arrived.
So Utd valued Shaw at £30.000.000 based on 1 season . Ben's worth more than a paltry £8,000,000 now the bench mark has been set and the Club I hope will have his value set higher than whats quoted in the rags , a British left back are few and far between .
I've seen Shaw a few times this season and isn't better than what Ben produced in his first season. If Ben gets to the form of his previous season then he should be valued closer to £20,000,000 given what Shaw has gone for. I'd settle for £8,000,000 and Gylfi though
Not for me Taylor is not as good as Ben in any part of his play. Would rather see us sell Taylor. But we are talking 30plus million for Shaw. Is ben 4 times worse than him no way. We should be keeping him. I do see him playing for a top 4 team soon and will be sold for a lot more than 8m.
he is a poor defender KJ, laugh all you want, would be a better midfielder as he is better attacking rather than defending
The big clubs think they can feed off us when they like but they need to know weve got michelin stars here now, so if they want feeding now then they will have to pay top class prices or do one to kfc !
Id bite the hand off anyone offering 6 million or more for Davies. I wouldnt if we didnt have Taylor but we do so I would . We picked up a young left back in January I think, for cover, and there is always Jazz. Just not sold on Davies defensively
Think you're being harsh on Ben. He's a young lad still learning and developing. His stats actually compare very favourably with Shaw's with not a lot to separate them....... certainly not £25 million quids worth of difference. His crossing/final ball could do with a LOT of improvement as could other aspects of his play but he is good enough to work on this with time on his side. I'm 100% for keeping him but, if we are tempted, I would insist on a HEFTY sell on clause because at some stage of his career he is going to be sold for big money.
I think he's been superb for us and credits a fee far in excess of £8m. To get an equivalent would cost us a lot more. Taylor we have, yes, but for how long? I get the feeling he's been looking to move on for some time now so I'm not convinced he's our long term option. Last year EVERYONE dropped the ball at some point, Chico, Williams, Rangel, Vorm and Tremmel included so its unfair to pick him out as a poor defender. He gets absolutely no help or cover from whichever winger is in front of him and central midfield were too busy tracking back to shield Williams or Chico because of last seasons defensive frailties. I thought all of our defenders played far worse than Davies on many occasions. How many clean sheets did we earn? not many. The better question would be, how many points were lost through defensive lapses? quite a few, so it wasn't just him, it was a poor collective defensive effort that cost us on many occasions. The stress of the pervading environment at the time I suggest. Ben is young, strong, home grown talent with a great attitude and both feet firmly on Swansea ground. I know most disagree but for me it would be a great shame to let him go for a pittance of £8m. I wouldn't even swap him for Gylfie.
