I see Enfield Council have applied to the government to introduce an £80 fixed penalty for spitting in public, it is expected that this will be rolled out across the country if approved. So how long before some smart-arsed copper strides onto a football pitch with a ticket when one of the players gobs on the pitch? I would imagine anyone who receives a ticket could challenge it by pointing out footballers are doing it in public at every match. Even worse are the ones who blow their noses on the pitch...
It's another money-making scam for councils to fleece us with. Next up a fixed penalty for farting in public, who said they'll be taxing fresh air?...
It they used common sense (yes I know councils and common sense go together like oil and water) and got people who repeatedly spit then i have no problem as theres no need for that. However if someone is running or having a coughing fit then sometimes you just have to do it because you are either so out of breath that you cant swallow or have a really chewie greeny that no one would swallow. How about people who spit out gum or drop cig butts? Those are far more worthy ideas.
Dropping gum should be a hangable offence. Ditto for being obese and walking directly in the middle of the pavement. Ditto for any cyclist listening to music. Actually, just being a cyclist should be worthy of some sort of corporal punishment at least.
