According to the Yorkshire Post we have had a £2M bid turned down for Sharp, it looks as though they may have to bid at the £3M mark to ensure that they will be able to talk to him due to the clause in his contract. DONCASTER Rovers have rejected a £2m offer from Championship rivals Leicester City for striker Billy Sharp. Does anyone think that we should try and get him? The move signals the start of a New Year bidding war for Sharp, who will be allowed to speak to any club willing to pay £3m for his services. Southampton, Wigan, West Bromwich and Stoke are also weighing up bids for the 25-year-old who has bagged 10 goals in 17 appearances so far this season. Manager Dean Saunders said: âIf I am honest, I donât expect him to stay but I hope he does for obvious reasons. âWe have had a bid which has not been accepted but I think we are going to get a few bids.â
Rumoured to be joining West Ham. I think we should prioritize the midfield but of course you wouldn't say no to someone of Sharp's quality.
Does anyone else feel that if NP was with us during the pre-season that we wouldnt have gone hell for leather for Nicky Maynard. Players like Sharp are well versed in the CCC and NP knows this
The only Nigel Pearson type signing Sven made was Lee Peltier But i think Nugent and Mills are also his type of player but i dont think he would of payed the wages or transfer fees for them
That was a Derek Fazackerly buy, as he had come from Huddersfield. I doubt that they would be able to meet his wage demands. We'll get him for £3m, just depends what other clubs pay up that look more interesting.
To a degree it was Fazackerley signing but Sven still had to agree to it. I think Sven would of quite happily broke the bank to sign Kyle Naughton but maybe Faz convinced him Peltier would be better value for money
Pearson seems to be putting in some very conservative bids. I hope this doesn't mean we end up not signing anyone. The transfer window is only open for four more weeks...
We have bid 2.5M for Billy Sharp and 1M for Cameron Stewart. We was never going to get them at them prices but if we did we would of paid 3.5M for 2 quality player while if Sven was in charge we would of paid at least 3 times that amount for them. Nigel wont spend massive on 1 player like Sven did. Sven has spent 20M on 1 player in the past so spending 5M on Matt Mills didnt bother him. Nigel will get value for money unlike Sven
Think you might find that NP will say which players he wants, and transfer fees and wages will be down to Andrew Neville and the board to negotiate.
Say Pearson was in charge in the summer, had Reading said they wanted 5M for Mills Pearson would of said he will get someone else in for alot less then that. Did selling Jack Hobbs for 800K and signing Matt Mills for 4.5M represent good business?
I agree. Pearson would not have signed Mills and Beckford for the prices Sven did. It's just not in his nature.
We have to remember although we have spent more money then anyone else in the history of the championship the budget we gave Sven was still probaly the smallest budget he has worked with throughout his career
Might be a bit premature to say that, given he has never had money to spend in his career. He has an outstanding scout who will, I believe, find what we're missing and Top's money is in safe hands with him.
When you look in the past he has never spent money, even under Mandaric we was still one of the best backed clubs in the league
I think the fact that Pearson will live and die by his transfer signings, yet he has put in surprisingly low offers for two players, shows that he doesn't intend to break the bank.
For 10M you should be buying a squad not a few players The only players Sven paid money for are Beckford, Mills, Peltier, Konchesky, St. Ledger and Schmeichel
