Mick McCarthy has opened the bidding with a £1m offer for Maynard,Delboy has told him no thankyou.. £2.5m or swap deals only. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/tra...stol-striker-Nicky-Maynard-article848474.html
Absolutely pointless and cretinous bid if this is actually true, from a manager I have some mild respect for... Everyone is fully aware Nicky Maynard is on 25% sell on clause to Crewe, so thats 250k lost on him, leaving onlt 750k (I'm terribly good at maths, I know). For that, we may as well keep him for the rest of the season, as in this league, unless you are uncovering a hidden gem, you can't anything for that in this league. We would be better off resisting all offers and so he works harder to impress clubs come the end of the season, then he can pick and choose where he wants to go. But £1 million is utterly stupid and only highlights the fact that you are just ANOTHER club/manager looking at Nicky Maynard, meaning the competition for him will increase and his bid escalate. If he was seriously interested he should have entered the race at double that offer or offered 2.5m to frighten off anyone else who might have been interested. The bloke must be as stupid and dumb as he sounds in his commentary.
I think you'll find it's 20% of any profit we make on NM. Personally I think he'll go at the end of the season for nowt for us, massive signing on fee for NM.
It's a bit like Ebay. You have to start somewhere and at least this way, before a deal is agreed, McCarthy knows he will get a 'do you want to go higher?' phone call. Without this first bid, he was just a window-shopper.
Anything less than 2.25 million ain't worth it. May as well keep him and keep out of relegation (hopefully). Staying up is worth much more than £1 million if he goes for nothing...
