I have now read the Watford Observer again and I still don't quite believe a few things. If / when I ever meet Baz I must ask him : How he went from bankruptcy in 2007 to being so flush that he splashed £10m on Watford FC (with no previous affiniti to football) and then plans to run it like a philanthropist, without drawing any form of salary for his management team. Some might say Baz could be headed toward another bankruptcy with tactics like that? To have satisfied all those creditors and have enough cash to splash £10m on a "loss making" football club, I'd love to know how he's done it. Even a lottery winner might struggle to achieve all of that? OK calling on historians, I have read a few bits and pieces about Leslie Wise who tried to buy the club in 1972 I believe. He arrived in a Rolls one night to cheers from the masses ....... only to disappear a few months later in a different rental car! Watford FC do not have a good recent record of spotting rogues - who remembers Evolution HD TV? A small, newly formed company registered to a modest address in High Wycombe? They signed a sponsorship deal and made just a small payment. The last I heard Watford were promising to pursue these "rogues", err how did that go???? My point is Baz has now laid out all of his plans to be making progress on all our ground issues within the next year. I believe this is mighty ambitious, maybe he should concentrate on supporting Sean Dyche more? After all we were beaten to the modest signing of Rhoys Wiggins by Charlton ...... I am looking forward to the Borehamwood game, a chance to see our 2 new signings. How much have they dented our "now 30% boosted" playing budget? With this in mind I can't wait for the others to arrive.
Totally agree, like the Watford PLC releasing a statement each year containing news on finances and shareholding information , surely we have a right to know where his money is coming from and how he intends to support us in the future? What's his business? How can he live with out a salary..... unless someone is paying him? He said he's not drawing a salary, so who is?
1 - Carpy - we have no right to know anything. 2 - Elixir - whilst I know nothing about how much cash or not the man has, I do know that, having loaned the club a substantial sum, he would be quite idiotic to pay himself a fat salary then give half of it to HMCR, rather than pay himself back some of his loans as and when funds allow.
Elixir, you may want to read one of the comments I just posted on the thread about him turning down the bids. I don't know, obviously, if my idea is right, but I explain how a protective trust works (sorry if you already know what one is) which from the facts we know seems like a plausible way of him getting these sums.
And he's loaned it in at zero percent which tells me hes in for a longish term and looking to make watfird fc agoing concern which would be an up in itself
i agree Abers, if what he says is true, we seem to have found an angel of mercy! That begs the question...'Why?' lol
If I were one of his former creditors I would be pursuing every means possible to recover some of "my" money that was now being invested in a football club - and would alert the Revenue in case they too had any interest
Dare I say trust the man? We are still in the early days of his reign let's just see how we get on in the transfer market over the summer. He has said we are after several permanent transfers, he has to deliver this otherwise he will loose the respect of the fans.
We have to see what falls out the tree over the coming weeks, what I do not want to see at the end of the transfer window is excuses though! That will not appease us fans who would like to see a few new faces amongst the ranks!
Yes, if this man breezed in saying he remembers "lofty from the 1930's" because he has always been a hornet, then that would seem more plausable. But when a "businessman" (some say he was a strip club owner / car wash entrepreneur) breezes in and says "here have some of my spare cash", with his creditors (incl my man Michael) steaming in the background. Why would a "non football man" buy into a football club - yes I have heard "accountants" (boo hiss) have been recommending that wealthy people buy into football (recent Radio 5 programme) then I am suspicious.
