Aha, wasn't aware of the 80's TV series as I had emigrated to Toronto in the early 70's.
I vaguely recall it did, but it was short lived - single season, The radio show picked up again later according to the attached I just discovered....
Takes me back to an Oz/Brit jointly produced BBC radio series called "The Flying Doctor", set on the Oz outback.. Several times in the half hour...
