Whenever I watch Saka I find myself edging toward my seat edge. Quick feet and head up. Match made in heaven.

I think the time has come for a serious conversation abou the size of the state. Take welfare. Is the NHS really suitable in its current form. I would like a serious assessment into whether something like the Dutch model is more appropriate. It still provides access for all, but is means...

I dont believe any govt will do what is necessary. It will cost them power. Their only interest is to win power or retain it. An overhaul of public services is needed. I dare say if I posted what I thought should be done there would be reactions on this little thread that demonstrate why...

The Next manager/head coach to go !

Will be an interesting watch. Wolves have been one of those clubs who have been lazy with their recruitment. Selling their best players and replacing poorly. Always assuming the promoted teams would be worse. I dont mind Edwards as a coach. Of all the recent promoted sides he showed the...

The Next manager/head coach to go !

Bit of a weird stand off. His contract is up in the summer. Wont sign a new one because investment in the squad is poor. Wont invest in the squad because mgr wont sign? Odd way to run a club.

Was reading that. I dont think they will wait for the local elections in May, unless he really steps up. He needs a really big moment or two. I dont see the budget being his friend though. He is now, according to some, the most unpopular PM since opinion polls were started. If his...

Match Day Thread Sunderland AFC v Arsenal FC - Saturday 8th November 2025 - KO 17:30

At work in Sheffield today. Fans of both clubs, and a Forest fan, loved what we did to Arsenal. They also called the Chelsea result class. Everyone said the same. Sick of these entitled fans wanting teams to just roll over. One lad said Arsenal behaved ****e all game and looked like they...

Match Day Thread Sunderland AFC v Arsenal FC - Saturday 8th November 2025 - KO 17:30

I dont like to instantly react. I can be a bit over excited. I think Ballards performance tonight is as good as anything I have seen by a Sunderland player in maybe 15 years. It was just so good. Three huge moments, but take those out and he was the lynchpin that locked Mukiele and Geertruide...

Absolutely outstanding performance. Superb. Off the ball shape is just class. When we attack it is with pace and guile. They cant handle Ballard and the like of Le Fee and Isidor are terrorising them. Loving it.

To be honest mate cutting services might well be the only real answer here. I would advocate for a dutch style NHS for example. Means test it. I can probably pay so I should. My eldest lad can so should get it free. It is a system designed for an entirely different period of time and...

£300bn borrowed by the government. Should we not have done furlough? An awful lot of poorer folk benefited from being able to keep an income when they would have been laid off. It was an essential policy to help people, sadly some took the piss. But it was a vital aid that cost money. You...

I agree wholeheartedly. But maybe he is getting sound economic advice from somewhere. Labour could pinch some of it. The reduction in interest paid by thr bank of england I have previously mentioned is a sensible way to get £10bn a year back.

How does that relate to our furlough bill etc? How did they make money off our vaccine roll out?

The downside nobody talks about is efficiency generally means job losses. Job losses = increased welfare costs. AI is the biggest threat to the public purse in my opinion. Terrifying to think the job cuts coming. Where do these people work now?

Have to say I think you are wrong on covid. The bulk certainly went on us. Furlough, test and trace - these were the big ticket items in reality. Then you can add vaccine roll out, vaccine manufacture, nightingale hospitals etc. It is estimated covid cost somewhere in the region of £400bn...

I find it interesting reading, in the Economist, that Farage's u turn this week on his plans for swathing tax cuts are seen as Reform showing a level of economic prudende that other parties are failing to grasp. Essentially he is reading the mood music in the bond markets. The Economist call...

Cheers mate, really appreciated. He is off to Blackburn today for the match. Derby daft. Had a bacon sarnie with him and he showed me the playlist for the Newport county match. They are on second from last, beaten by Jonny Cash. Must have made it to be on the Newport playlist...
