    My worldy favourite food list:
    Thai
    Mediterranean
    Peruvian
Indonesian would be on there but its generally too spicy. And for those who will say they love spicy food I defy you to eat a meal my Mrs cooks for her mates. She cannot go anywhere without her Sambal. Sure when I get arrested at Manchester Airport it will be for smuggling chillies into the country. Definitely not going to stick those up my arse though.

Not sure, I think it's just a Christmas thing. Certainly on until end of December.

JPF is locked out <whistle> so asked me to post this on his behalf...

There's nothing wrong with chillies up the arse, it beats purple Sky Sports dildos.

I assume by Pakistani food you mean fried pizzas and Khantucky Fried Chicken.

    1. Sushi
    2. Lebanese

I could live with that only.

Missed Japanese off my list as well. Love it - must be good for you as well. They seem to produce their fair share of centurions.

The only food I actively dislike is Bangladeshi or, if you like British Indian greasy-and-less-than-fresh slop. Heaven knows why it's so popular in the UK..
Finding a good Chinese is difficult as most seem to specialise in MSG gloop, so I rarely eat it.
Mexican is difficult in the UK because most restaurants, such as Zapatista, are strangely obsessed with mixing everything with coriander leaf (which I abhor) but, in general, I like food from Central and South America, and love most food from all around the Mediterranean.
Thai food can be wonderful, as can Japanese, Vietnamese and Indonesian. I'm ashamed to say I've never eaten Korean..

Having backpacked through Mexico and Central America I have a dislike for Mexican food. Anglicised TexMex stuff is edible, but food in Mexico/CA seems to consist of exactly the same ingredients for every meal, namely tortillas (bland), refried beans (super bland), salsa (meh), and guacamole (bland mush). They just change what's on the side, so meat for lunch or dinner, or scrambled egg at breakfast. A few months of that 3 times a day is enough for one lifetime.

I should say that the Caribbean side of Central American did kick up some nice soul food which was a nice surprise at the time.

Bet you have a few stories to tell about that trip!

I'm going to Mexico for the first time in February, though not backpacking. I've spent a lot of time in southern California, Colorado and New Mexico and agree that Mexican food quickly becomes tedious due the limitations of ingredients and variations on the same theme. The sheer variety and freshness of food in the Med and south-east Asia make these areas culinarily unsurpassable.
