Even though it is years since this man was employed at QPR, unfortunately, our reputation will suffer as a result meaning some parents will not let their kids join our club. Another setback in our efforts to nurture some home grown talent.
From the link that Beth posted this looks shockingly bad. 30 years of this bloke, with rumours from as far back as the seventies. Nothing to do with present ownership etc, but those in the club's hierarchy over that time should be hanging their heads in shame.
I assume that if he was 'fired' in 2003 it would have been Nick Blackburn who would have been Chairman at the time? Surely he could throw some light on the matter. I doubt many clubs will escape without having had some similar character in their coaching staff but it seems there has been a shocking lack of 'effort' in dealing with these people whether deliberately ignoring or 'putting up' with them because of their talent at coaching or identifying potential...
So there we have it A nation that has allowed sexual abuse in religion and entertainment and in it's national sporting game over the last generation No talk about stopping it tomorrow while the witch hunt deepens Such is the culture of a nation rotten to the core
This type of stuff goes on in all nations Dave. It doesn't mean any one nation is rotten to the core.
I knew this was going to happen with us. Was told last month about it but was told not to say anything until the story broke (I didn't want to be a ITK). One thing that will come out is that he left a house to a former youth team player who also made first team appearances when he died.
Sorry can't have that it is certainly treated a lot different in any of the countries I have visited over my years What we have here is an avalanche of sensational revelations played out in the public domain by the media who are now all over it . This is completely different to how other countries and more importantly other cultures handle this stuff Of course it shocks it's the most dreadful of all crimes IMO When I have discussed this issue in France with friends I have found this OK just my snapshot but 100% true Firstly they hadn't heard of it Natural disgust of course Immediate question of why it went on for so long Primary compassion for victims Severe immediate hatred of possible culprits but in every case the question of fact against media report They simply cannot get the influence the U.K. sucks in on its media Generally there is a completely different psychological outlook to life Generally the consensus was such crimes are prevented at source with severe punishments towards people committing evil acts on young people This filters down into culture and society and morality I have had a few comments about the UK getting its house in order and when I have explained that this is all historical they all question what is being done for tomorrow So based on just a few evenings in my local bar I am sorry but I see a massive gulf between cultures Of course this stuff goes on worldwide but there is a clear difference to me on the way it's handled. I found my own light hearted outlook to life in general put firmly in its place questioning myself Family values around me are at a different level completely as during the hot summers children regularly bathe and play naked on all the river beaches around my area in freedom There is not a hint of perversion in the culture. Clothes are swiftly put on for the main reason ... the damage the sun does I state this as an example as I challenge if this degree is acceptable in U.K. Summertime resorts ... I think there is a massive gulf I also know for a fact that we are very much viewed as a nation that buries its dirt into places because we feel it's better that way and it's too uncomfortable to talk about and address Well our dirt is out now with 30 year old stories about football players A game we think we own and have exclusive world rights on ... time to wake up again there So echoing nothing but reports you have just simply heard yourselves through a sick media culture does what exactly? In what way does this go to stamping out tomorrow's crimes. Exactly why I believe in harsh action on the abuse subject and exactly why I appear flippant and challenge the way people are acting. To me it's extremely strange the direction of anger goes in on these challenges because I am convinced the U.K. only wants bad news to feed off and after they have pigged out on it nothing much is ever done ... its forgotten about as there will be something much more juicy to get your teeth stuck into Simple for me of course their is a massive difference of culture When QPR fans behind me last thursday night chant **** when a player named Saville came on for Wolves it says everything I need to know on how things are handled
Well, I don't really 'child abuse in France, Italy etc' in my search history, but I'm pretty confident that past and current prevalence would be no lower than the UK, and in Catholic countries possibly higher. Of course we handle things differently, because there are cultural differences. It was the same in the C19th. I don't particularly like the media led frenzy over here, but at least it means nothing is permanently swept under the carpet, abusers will always walk in fear of massive public exposure. I think you have made your point now Windom. Your more important message is how we make sure current and future youngsters are protected.
No but I do know about Child protection in our society as it's very much a part of my families everyday lives as my partner works in it There is a diluted responsibility in local government whereupon the Its left down to individuals to flag any possible threat. The overall department whose responsibility it is to police this is seriously under funded and under resourced Parents are not even aware of the possible dangers they may face when using third party child care There isn't even the budgets to advertise the dangers On top of that the checking system does not account for liars who claim they have all the requirements in place ... many current cases are purely about this sad fact ... people hiding behind a failed system In an environment where the responsibility is diluted can anyone wonder that cases slip through It's take tragedy to even get the public attention for a while then it's forgotten More is spent on taxpayers money on other projects than preventing child abuse that is a fact Coupled with a business culture that exists of getting work off my desk onto someone else's desk ... it's not rocket science Peter I don't want to know anything about you and care not what yours or anyone's view is of me Forums are designed to evoke opinions in nothing but a form of self entertainment. You really are lost if you solely focus on the crap I post
Always been my main point Lack of confidence in the UK system against what I experience in the now with a different culture I am certainly going to find out more here in France but confident it will be better as each commune or village has a responsibility to supply state controlled child care through the crèche system ... there's a straight comparison about blanket protection Rich or poor if children need care it's there fully protected same as the school buses pick up the kids in my hamlet on the dot of 7:30 each morning and deliver them safely to school ... try even imagining those two facts happening in the UK where profit on those industries come first To state on this thread that this problem is the same across Europe that has been suggested needs challenge IMO 30 years ago there was nothing or very little in the UK and today we have a failed system so for people to get all outraged is frankly very dim IMO Reform or a continued blame culture after the event My money is on blame culture so **** the lot of them
This business between the club and Gieler stinks, if my reading of the article about the player in the 80s is correct. It says that he left the club suddenly in 2003 and died the following year, but nothing was done to mark his passing. This may suggest that the club might have done a deal to get him out with minimum fuss. Very sad if true.
