So, 2 months in sunny Espana now, settled in, love the place, feels like home. First visit back to the beautiful and usually soaking wet land that is England in a mere 11 days, and i can tell you i am pretty ****ing excited for it, and that's before we even start on the small matter of the derby. It's got me to thinking of the small things i miss, as i'm travelling hand baggage only, i start to wonder about paying £40 for an empty case, and fetching back some little home comforts which i can't get here but are never forgotten. -Warburtons bread (& crumpets, the worlds finest). -Greggs (You'd be amazed, i don't have them often back in blighty, but i've often fancied one on the Costa!). -VO5 hair products (I'll stand by for abuse on this one...). -All Saints tops. -Adidas trainers that haven't been out for 9 months. Then the stuff that doesn't go in a case. -The pub with the lads. -The match with the lads. -Sunday dinner at the parents house. -Rain (seriously, i do miss it!) -Conveniently placed shops that sell EVERYTHING in one place. -24 hour Tesco/Asda. -Cheap petrol (Oh yes, it's more expensive here, and you travel much greater distances) -Internet that works. -Mobile phones with reception. -Queues in shops, rather than free for alls and near brawls. -Roundabouts without cars parked on them with their hazards on. -Entering motorways at speed, rather than from a standing start, playing chicken with truck drivers. There's many and much more, i'm saddened that i can't stay a week, but we are insanely busy at the minute, i can barely afford the 2 days! I love our new life here, made some great friends, some really solid people i'm working with, love the amount of time spent outdoors etc etc, but for 2 days, i will be the happiest Englishman in England, even though i'll look forward to touchdown in Malaga on Monday. Any of our other ex-pats think of anything i've missed?
Well, i'm ok when i'm out and about, but i literally get no reception at home, cos we're up in the hills. I normally get half way down the hill on the drive out somewhere and my phone goes crackers for 5 mins with texts and voicemails, very ****ing annoying indeed! And don't mock the VO5, lot's of hold, no stickiness and shine, smashing
Lurpak butter for the warburtons Good old fish & chips with m/peas & curry sauce Everything else looks in place apart from the V05 PRODUCTS
BB I suppose all those faults you listed are just about bearable when you are basking in the sun by the pool with a glass of ice cold sangria at the ready.
Proper bacon, none of that cheap crap you get abroad. To go with your Wurbutons bread and lurpak. Sky plus ? Magners. Blockbusters/lovefilm.
worchester sauce crisps love them to bits, evertime i go back almost a suitcase full the gell over here is very good anyway so dont miss vo5 do miss english style trainers and stuff just cant get away with dutch sports clothing.
It's the ultra hold 'freeze spray' you want mate, you need 3 sprays and your barnets sorted in 30 seconds, quality product! We do struggle for good bacon, although we can get it at Iceland, but that's lower English quality! Sky plus we have (and it's cheap as ****, 110 euro a YEAR!). Magners is available, but painfully expensive, which is a knacker cos i love the stuff! Smithy, good shout on the Worcester Sauce mind, and the trainers thing ****s me right off, you don't get 'exclusives' you get 'been out in England for yonks, and probably available in bargain shops for £20', but pay 70 euro for the privelige! I'll be getting 3 pairs on my visit, minimum!
Teacakes.....I love a toasted teacake, and I can't get them in Australia, also, the English Cadbury chocolate tastes better than the Australian Cadburys, don't know why!
I questioned this in the past, and apparently it's to do with laws relating to sugar and fat content, which is a bit looser overseas, hence the difference in taste. Same applies to Coca-Cola in the States, i drink way too much of the stuff in the UK, but it's just so sickeningly sweet in the States it's untrue. The sick bastards put sugar in the milk too, WTF is that about??
Maybe you shoiuld read this. Water or Coke? I could not believe this..... Very interesting WATER #1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.. (Likely applies to half the world population) #2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is mistaken for hunger. #3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as 3%. #4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study. #5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue. #6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers. #7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page. #8.. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of water you should drink every day? COKE #1. In many states the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from the highway after a car accident. #2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke and it will be gone in two days. #3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the 'real thing' sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china. #4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola. #5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion. #6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes. #7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy. #8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle.. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield. FOR YOUR INFORMATION: #1 the active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis. #2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup! (the concentrate) the commercial trucks must use a hazardous Material place cards reserved for highly corrosive materials. #3. The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean engines of the trucks for about 20 years! Now the question is, would you like a glass of water? or Coke?
****ing hell! I drink about 4 litres of bottled water a day though, and maybe a litre of Coke. Usually 4-6 San Migs, more on weekends (even though i only work weekends, haha). How does that work out for my innards then??
aye your right about the trainers its mental at least half the price in england!! and i feel your pain on the magners we were in portugal two yrs ago and we found a nice irish/dutch run bar and it was €7 a bottle, and it's even worse then amsterdam man.... what makes it worse is we were all in, in a hotel about 1mile away
7 euro?? ****ing hell i'm going to Portugal in 6 weeks! Greasy robbing bastards*.. * I'm aware not all Poruguese are greasy, or robbers.
Another good shout, you get decent ones here, but they just ain't the same. I actually instantly want a sausage butty now.
