I don't want to progress this mistake any further, but it was specific, it was not a generalisation in race terms. Let's agree it was a mistake and move on.
They're clearly taking the "lets ignore them and maybe they'll forget about it. Highly ironic when you think about it. Also, quite clearly unhappy about having something he's said jumped upon and called out on. Obviously he'll take the "I didn't mean it like that" line, but sucks when people read or hear something, then run with it and use it to bash you with. Also highly ironic when you think about it. Ignoring it, hoping it goes away, and not just coming out and apologizing is also extremely ironic. It's also not going to work. Casual racism is a problem, its one I care deeply about, and it needs dealing with. #AskPLT
I'm not sure but I've a feeling 'casual' is more of a youth movement / fashion thing than an actual 'race'? But never the less there's no need to jump to negative conclusions about them all just because they all wear the same jackets
We know you have a point, Happy Tiger. You make sure of that, don't you. When did you ever come out and apologise for your crass remark about OAPs and bairns subsidising your match fees? I think you did change track to play down the outcry , but no apology. So you did what you are saying PLT might do. You, who is older and wiser in life. Think about it. I think we will.
You keep saying subsidising but what does the cost of his ticket have to do with oap or a childs ticket. nothing.
I may or may not have made a jokey comment about the new membership and how it would make my ST cheaper thanks to the OAPs and kids, honestly can't remember. I have clearly and concisely stated how I feel about the scheme since the full facts of it became clear. The action I've taken is to not get a ST. Quite why you think that, and casual racism are worthy of comparison should be baffling, but having read some of your stuff on here, it is not. Thanks for illustrating quite graphically how this insidious view really shouldn't be ignored.
I didn't say it (originally), he did. Do you think removing concessions to offer lower prices to adults is socially acceptable? Happy did and he made it clear he welcomed his reduction, regardless of how it came about.
When you start with a lie it does tend to make what follows less believeable. You know what you wrote, you didn't retract (that I saw), you just played with words and the truth - just as you are now. Racism wasn't the important thing here, it was your high handed comment from a poor position.
I don't see why it shouldn't be. In many parts of the world they're working full time jobs by the time they can walk and count.
Depends which point you're discussing - the racism was a side issue in my comment, which focussed on someone offering advice they don't follow themselves. But yes, racism is poor and it can creep into discussion unintentionaly because it isn't understood to be racism.
This is quite possibly the most ridiculous thread we've had on here. Look at what I actually said, and look at the reaction. It's absurd. There's really no need for any 'I didn't mean it like that' or any other excuse. I meant exactly what I wrote. The temperament issue that Mbokani evidently has, seems common in footballers of African descent. That is an observation. How can it possibly be considered offensive? It does seem that way. I posted a list of examples which explain why it seems that way to me, and another poster inadvertently added to it with a further example. It's a terribly 21st century thing that when people see certain words or phrases (in this case, "African") they just instinctively scream "racist" regardless of what was actually said. The really sad thing is, if a similar observation was made about, let's say Scandinavians, no one would bat an eyelid. Is it also racist to say that African footballers often seem to celebrate goals with elaborate and well-rehearsed dance routines? How about observing that East African nations seem to produce a large number of long-distance runners? I'm curious; do people think we should pretend not to notice any behavioural patterns amongst people from certain backgrounds, or is it just the ones that are potentially negative traits observed in the usual taboo races? Asian, Muslim, Black, etc. Oh I've mentioned three of them; smite me thrice for my sins, lord.
Not really though. You've taken isolated but well-known examples and passed it off as an African trait in football. I don't think you intended to be racist but reinforcing negative stereotypes, like Happy said, is bordering on casual racism if not crossing that line.
I made a joke (allegedly, can't be arsed looking tbh, I vaguely recollect maybe saying something like "Well my tickets cheaper, yay!", which affected no one, and was more than likely made before the full details of the scheme were made public. I then made my position extremely clear, which you ignore as a retraction or an actual representation of my views on it, you focus on the initial joke and pay no heed to the actual position I have adopted, because of course, you like to pick at inconsequential bollocks and post endlessly on it. Seriously, what the actual **** has a post I made on the membership scheme, lost in the mists of time, got to do with what we're discussing here? Nothing, that's what. It's just you with your petty and vindictive nature trying to deflect from the actual discussion at hand. If I was a hypocrite, I would be posting about how I hate the scheme, whilst cradling in my arms a membership card. I don't have one. Hopefully that clears that up for you, and you can let it go, because honestly, there's nothing there. Why not share with us all what YOU think about casual racism? Do you think it exists? Is it acceptable if it does? Should we ignore it because it makes us uncomfortable? Is it just bantz or generalisations that hurt no one? Casual racism WAS the important thing here, certainly to me, and given subsequent responses I feel more than vindicated in highlighting it. I note PLTs response just above, and it saddens me tbh. It also saddens me to think he's more like his arch enemies, the Allams, than he would admit personality wise.
You've lost it fella. It doesn't seem that way. "I wouldn't want my daughter marrying an African. Loads of em are in jail, they obviously all have issues with violence. What? It does seem that way. Guys?? Guys??"
