    Six Strings 1.50 Newcastle

Second on debut behind Hyperfocus. They pulled well clear of the rest that day. Ran a credible ninth in the super sprint. 2/1 looks a fair price.

    Morning, comrades.

Big question of the day is why on earth is Fattsota being sent over the sticks, for the first time, a month shy of his 9th birthday (providing they races on the Southwell sod). I’m a keen adherent to the old adage ‘you can’t teach an old dog new tricks’ and really can not understand this switch, whatsoever.

In the main the race though is very weak and his opponents include the horse named after one of my fave TV progs (Benidorm, who has achieved the rare feat of being 0/50) and the animal monikered after my commanding officer when I served, with gallantry, in the Royal Wiltshire Grenadier Hussar Guards (Major Hindrance).

Nothing for me today but good luck to those who are wagering.

The attempt to get Cocktails At Dawn qualified for the 2017 Grand National heads to, quite fittingly, Aintree at the weekend - he needs to finish in the first 4 of a 24+ furlong steeplechase. Only 12 runners entered at the 5 day stage and you get the feeling the race could cut up to a handful of participants so the old boy may not have to do that much to achieve the desired qualification. And if he could get his perch reduced a few pounds in the process everyone will be a winner (well apart from Cocktails At Dawn in Saturday’s race that is…nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more…).

    Mercian Prince 12.25 Sudell 5/2

Trainer just starting her training career but has hit the ground running with one winner, one second an two thirds from five runners over fences. This one ran well to finish second on debut for the yard. A step forward on that form would give this one a great chance. Was 4/1 last night.

    Poor Ballydague Lady :(

Did anyone spot the lack of persuasion on the third when they got racing? Hope stewards ask the question

I don't understand why he would come to Sandown when the big 2m race over in Ireland round this time (can't remember the name) is more money !!

John Durkan Sunday week but that is over 2m 4f and they will be sending Djakadam to that. Dial-a-bet Chase is over Christmas at Leopardstown <ok>

First prize in the John Durkan is €50K whilst the Tingle Creek offers £84,405 to the winner. I think Ron would throw himself under a train if €50K ever became worth more than £84,405 <laugh>

They had reopened the entries such was the bad turnout of numbers for the two big races at Sandown Saturday. A race such as the TC should be buzzing with entries but sad to see them not have bigger fields for their big day.
