  3. All joking aside, and putting to one side his last season at Anfield, I think Gerrard will go down as one of the best players in the game. He fitted 'Pool's system perfectly, having the ability to use all of his strengths, something that successive England managers failed to fully utilise. I can't think of many English players who could get close to being such a rounded player. Sure, there are midfielders who scored more goals, or who had more skills, or who could defend better, but Gerrard could push them all very close, and he had all three!

Would I have loved to have seen him in a Spurs shirt? Of course I would! And that's the biggest compliment I can pay him.

Think that sums him up. Lampard was a better finisher, Alonso was a better passer, Mascherano was better defensively, Keane/viera maybe better captains in showing leadership however Gerrard was 2% behind them in all aspects. He was the ultimate all round footballer, not just midfielder.

Played CM, played RW, played as a second striker and was part of one of best forward partnerships in league with Torres, even went to RB during CL final and if you had never heard of him before you wouldn't have thought he was out of place in that position.

Where he stood out was being able to grab a game and turn things around, win things all on his own. Some players play well when team is playing well, Gerrard played well even if rest of team were having a shocker and singlehandedly won games.

Shall we skip past the Kopites on here calling him a liability a couple of seasons back, or shall we vault them?

    Your call chaps

Could play anywhere on the field...

    ... And well.

No specific weaknesses, a team player and a legend. The only player in living memory who was better is Derek Asamoah, but no mortal compares to that footballing God.
