By my late-teens I'd already decided what was good music and what was bad then all this new-fangled Madchester and Rave stuff came along, now they are dropping, misery.
I was about 12 when I first heard stone roses , then my bro started giving me tapes <laugh> of happy Monday , the charlatans, spirals etc

That's pretty much when good British guitar bands were at their peak ...

They were signed to Factory Records at the same time as Black Grape. Reached number 1 in the US Billboard Top 50, and their biggest hit was in the soundtrack of the Gwyneth Paltrow/John Hannah film, Sliding Doors.
