So, I was the sacrificial lamb for the Liverpool thread - but I'm still kicking! Sparta thread tomorrow!
Nathan gave the Liverpool defence enough to keep them interested, but I thought he was looking a bit out of his depth in this company?
He wouldn't let himself be cheered up. He said we were lucky and they got chances. I actually thought Fonte had a good game...some neat footwork.
In some ways this was a better result that the Inter game. This was one of the most organised defensive displays I have seen from a Saints side. It wasn't a bad performance and the game had a nervy, fascinating edge about it. Liverpool look like the best side we have played against since Chelsea. In the past we might have given a team like this some of their own treatment however I think our forward line is not capable of doing this. With Austin, it lacks pace and I am still not convinced about Remind who would be better being played as a winger. We looked better once Long cam on but a proven goal scorer is the top priority in January. It was an organised display from Puel's team but a bit different from the swash-buckling style of play we have been used to of late. I wonder if anyone else had the suspicion that Peul might be moved on once the Chinese investment comes in and we go for a bigger name? I think Puel is capable at this level and a very good coach. Not sure that the style of football is that entertaining. It us more likechess than football sometimes although I admire Puel's ability yo do this.
"Neat footwork"???? Oh boy that one tested me By the way, all the credit went to VIrgil but what a challenge from Jose on Coutinho
I was a bit nervy about today's game albeit I was please Lallana was missing. It will be interesting to see where Liverpool end up this season as I think they looked very impressive. However, I feel Chelsea looked better and think they will pip them to the title. It is funny how the "top" teams have all raised their game (or at least tried to with Man Utd) after the shock success of Leicester last year. I think that Leicester, Saints and West Ham have probably been the victims of this although I expected Leciester to suffer from the "after the Lord Mayor's show" syndrome. The demise of West Ham, even allowing for the new stadium, has been the biggest surprise. The top teams have already pulled away and I think that there isn't as much difference between the teams below Saints. Not surprised that Sunderland are turning things around as this was bound to happen.
Just surprised that every point I made would have been challenged. Can't see how anyone could suggest that the Inter team we played were as good as this Liverpool team. Can anyone really consider Austin to be pacey?
That will teach the Liverpool fan to be more careful when choosing guys to fall or bump into. Your dad Beeefy sounds as strong as an ox!!!
I agree with you and this is sitting in my hallway in Mallorca. Saints need to put a £50m price on him so when Chelsea come sniffing we can maybe get said asking price and, if cheeky tempt them to part with Tammy Abraham.
