I cannot believe this!! FIFA, possibly the most corrupt body in sport are opening an inquiry about the wearimg of poppies in the England v Scotland match. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37972265
The same FIFA that allows eastern bloc countries' supporters to racially abuse black and ethnic minority players and levies derisory fines on them and awards the World Cup to the biggest perpetrator of the lot, effectively showing no respect to these players. But when we wish to respect all those who lost their lives fighting for the freedom that we all take for granted this totally corrupt bunch of nonentities will make an example of us. Be sure the punishment will be far greater than any levied on the racists...
I am 100% with The ****witts on this as much as I dislike them and understand the British people Poppies or any symbol are not correct on international football shirts Domestic football of course but bad idea for nations imo Stop it now as it would lead to real trouble Nothing wrong with poppies but it has turned into a bloody industry now with custom versions etc. IMO people should be able to watch football and remember their fallen not have it rammed down their throats by routine We have all sorts of iconology in the public domain keep it out of football It is only being used because football is marketed more than religion which is responsible for starting it all We are approaching a time where idiots worship a overweight white old sod who wears red because marketeers invented it that way never mind the ****ing Elfs Keep international football as it is No poppies or symbols or before long you will have stupid bear with one eye plastered everywhere just to get international attention The ban is better PR for the poppies anyway and the marketeers know this that's why it's now a story Whatever a icon represents not on international shirts ever imo
While it's an unnecessary and OTT reaction from FIFA it's stupid of the FA and SFA to defy the rules. Would a minute's silence really not have been enough? Why is there every a year a need for everyone to be seen wearing a poppy to the point you're a pariah if you don't. Endless public displays of commemoration devalue it IMO. Personally I've still not got over the death of the Thai king anyway.
Whilst very often not agreeing with this chap, I totally agree with this post and will not bother to write further as this sums up my opinion too and a "like" for a Windy Earle post
Sorry I agree too with Windy and Wherever. Rememberence day is a day for private reflection, to be carried out as people see fit..not something to be pushed in peoples faces
The point of the post was EXACTLY what many posters on here appear to be for - the right to remember in a way we see fit. Who are FIFA to tell us what to do? It is not a matter of how we remember it is a matter of FIFA telling us we can't.
You are missing the point. The point is we should NOT be dictated to by FIFA. The answer to your question is that I would NOT allow my boss to tell me how to behave on a personal level.
