Liverpool 's 6-1 victory over Watford saw Jurgen Klopp's side climb to the top of the Premier League table for the first time since May 2014.
The last time they led the league was after the 3-3 draw with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, a stalemate which all but extinguished their hopes of pipping Manchester City to the title.

Here ECHO Sport rates how that table-topping Liverpool XI fared during the 2013-14 season against the performances of the Reds team who climbed above Chelsea following last weekend's victory.

    Mignolet: 6/10
    Karius: 6/10

    Johnson: 6/10
    Clyne: 8/10

    Sakho: 6/10
    Lovren: 7/10

    Skrtel: 6/10
    Matip: 8/10

    Flanagan: 7/10
    Milner: 8/10

    Gerrard: 9
    Henderson: 8

    Allen: 7
    Lallana: 9

    Lucas: 7/10
    Can: 7/10

    Sterling: 9/10
    Coutinho: 9/10

    Sturridge: 9/10
    Mane: 8/10

    Suarez: 10/10
    Firmino: 8/10

    Rodgers: 8/10
    Klopp: 9/10

    Totals
    2013/14: 90/120
    2016/17: 95/120

I'd say those ratings were pretty fair except for Rodgers - although I admit I'm biased <laugh>

Sterling really did benefit from Suarez laying goals up for him.

At the time we're talking I don't think so, we loved that triple S attack. Must admit seeing that 9 rating in direct comparison to Firmino's doesn't look right though <laugh>

An inaccurate comparison in my opinion. Considering Jordan Henderson had the 2nd highest number of appearances in the league (35), non of which were as a sub, just behind Martin Skrtel (36) and he hasn't been rated in the 2013/2014 squad.

    Should be more like...

    Mignolet: 6/10
    Karius: 6/10

    Johnson: 6/10
    Clyne: 7/10

    Skrtel: 6/10
    Matip: 8/10

    Sakho/Agger/Toure: 6/10
    Lovren/Lucas/Klavan: 6/10

    Flanagan/Cissoko: 6/10
    Milner/Moreno: 7/10

    Lucas/Allen: 7/10
    Can/Wijnaldum: 7/10

    Gerrard: 8/10
    Lallana: 9/10

    Henderson (13/14): 7/10
    Henderson (16/17): 8/10

    Sterling: 8/10
    Mane: 8/10

    Coutinho (13/14): 7/10
    Coutinho (16/17): 9/10

    Suarez: 10/10
    Firminho: 9/10

    Sturridge (13/14): 8/10
    Sturridge (16/17): 7/10

    Defence: 30/50

    Midfield: 22/30
    Attack: 34/40

    Total: 86/120

    Defence: 34/50
    Midfield: 24/30
    Attack: 33/40

    Total: 90/120

    Also...
    Grujic/Origi > Aspas/Moses
    Klopp >>> Brod

    Good analysis <ok>

I'm not sure if I read the OP differently to you as I saw it not as directly comparing the players with each other in a then and now way but more as an appraisal of each within the time scale i.e. 11 games into the season.

Go to admit I didn't click on the link as the echo takes ages to open by which time I'm not the least bit interested in what I was clicking on to read in the first place <laugh>

I looked at it more as THAT team over the season and THIS team as a season's potential. I gave Couts and Firm fairly high scores as they are playing well together with Mane as a front 3. Even though individually they will probably be 7/8 behind Suarez's 10, which is deserved as he basically carried the team. But our overall attack is probably equal if not better than back then.

Both attacks are very prolific, but our current one has the goals spread out more, offering more consistancy when injuries occur.

Both defenses are effor prone but the current one is better.

I have to disagree on Gerrard/Henderson. Compare them as captain Gerrard wins. Compare them as DM and its not contest, Henderson wins. Gerrard left our defense exposed as a DM and it contributed a big part to our awful defensive record that season. World class long passes and scoring penalties is not enough for a 9 rating.

I totally agree. Hence why in mine I compared Hendo of then and now. He's undoubtedly improved.
I compared Gerrard to Lallana as that mix of defensiveness and creativeness in MF. With our current system, Lallana is providing more to our team. Gerrards best years were pre 2009.

Strange Sturridge has not scored any league goal this season.
