As we approach 2017 CoC, this has a little more significance. After all, we aren't a rugby league city. Are we? http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/hull...-lights-2016/story-29869216-detail/story.html
why choose 2 players from FC though? If that's the route they want to take then it should have been a player from city, fc & rovers! Have we still got an ice hockey team?
The rugby players will be too thick to press the button. In all seriousness though, Greengrocer is right - by choosing 2 players from Hull FC they're alienating the Rovers fans. I ****ing hate rugby but if I was a Rovers fan and was planning on attending this, I now wouldn't. I actually can't understand the thinking on this, whoever organises these things didn't they think 'oh hang on, we've got 4 professional teams in the city. Shouldn't we get someone from each team?'. Even if they don't use City and the ice hockey team there should be Rovers representation.
Wonder if the Liverpool Xmas light switch on has a couple of Everton players pressing the big button or Manchester etc etc etc
Might as well be Michelle Dewberry switching the light on,football is dying in this City and will continue to do so until the chuckle brothers do one.
Both have spent their entire career with their home town club, one is retiring after 15 years, which included cup successes, final appearances and international caps, the other has just been voted the best player in the country by his peers. If there were two Rovers players or two City players with the same achievements this year then I'd be more than happy for them to do it. As it is these two are great representatives for the city regardless of what team or sport you support.
Makes a change from X Factor contestants. Deano switched on the Newlands Ave lights in 2011, I doubt anyone objected.
Surely Rovers fans will recognise that you can't expect players from a lower league club joining in? That would be like a City player doing it and everyone bleating that there needed to be someone from Hull United doing it too? (I think they got relegated? It's not really my thing)
Personally I think they should have got former Rovers player and England star Josh Hodgson, he's a testament to success in this City. I don't think Rovers fans would nominate any of their current lot, all the decent ones are desperately trying to leave.
I don't know who he is, but I'd take your word for it At least it's not some panto dame or a 'reality' tv lackofpersonality though Askews won't be moaning when he's in town that night having a pint with me while the ladies go shopping anyway!
