That only applies after scoring a goal, so by definition it cannot be applied to a player before the ball has crossed the line.

So if a player scores an offside goal and takes their shirt off, then notices it has been disallowed, then technically the ref can't book him.

It all just smacks of desperation which makes it all the sweeter.

I love when rivals are scrambling this much cos it means they now really fear us again. long may they clutch at straws

You're forgetting this bit from Law 5 - ''decisions .....will be based on the opinion of the referee who has the discretion to take appropriate action''

not true IMO. A ref is king of all he surveys so he could book anyone for anything he deems has transgressed his own private rule set.

If a player say just strips off in the centre circle for no reason he would be booked (provided shorts stay on) the only time a player removes a shirt seems to be at goal time and it really is an artefact of a fashion that came about briefly... I'm sure firmino saw someone play for brazil do it and copied it on play ground and its stuck with him.

He needs to cut it out.

That means he can have an opinion about whether the law was broken or not, not what the law is in the first place. It covers things like actually offside or not, not the definition of offside.

Plus the definition of shirt removed only comes into effect once it covers the face, had the ball crossed the line by then?

    Firmino's goal correctly stands <cheers>

I'm not disputing whether the goal should stand or not or whether the rule was applied as defined, just that refs are notorious for applying their version of events based loosely on their interpretation of the rules. There's no way in real time that a ref could tell whether the shirt was off before or after the goal. The beach ball goal was mentioned earlier on another thread, if that was allowed to stand, who knows what will be 'allowed' in future. Watch out for similar situation coming up but ruling the goal out <laugh>

Bit like Lovren's tackle on Zaha (the first one of Pardew's whimperings) which was clearly shown to have no contact whatsoever (so it was 'dubious', according to Diego). It started outside the box anyway, if there was any contact. Geronimo's shirt never came off until the ball crossed the line. Case closed.

Sometimes this board is dead, yet we manage to debate something pointless for 24 hours such as shirts being pulled up before the ball crossed the line. <laugh>

We're more of an off topic board of people that support lfc.. that when we talk about football, we like to discuss the bits that are more OT during the game.

    Hello Zingy
What's pointless to you maybe important to another person, so it's wrong for you to generalise.

You're right. Every now and again a football discussion breaks out on the board and somebody always tries to stifle it. <laugh>

Lot of old women on here for sure, talking about what they had for their dinner and the latest goings on in Latchford ... football just can't compete with that .......... :emoticon-0110-tongu
