As Moyes us subject to a touchlineban it wouldn't surprise me if the players actually worked hard at the weekend and came away with three points, stranger things have happened.

Loads of media carrying it now. The Mirror was the first.

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/sunderland-poised-sack-david-moyes-9173011

Then the others joined in with the usual cut and paste slight variations.

Then the Echo says it`s nonsense.

Sunderland rubbish David Moyes sack reports

Sunderland have dismissed reports in the national media that David Moyes is to be sacked.

The Mirror published a story today that the manager, who has only been in place just over three months, faces "the axe" if the Black Cats fail to win at Bournemouth on Saturday.

It reported that Sunderland owner Ellis Short is running out of patience after the side equalled the worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign when they lost 4-1 at home to Arsenal at the weekend.

Sunderland have only two points from 10 games (draws with Southampton and West Brom), a tally which equals Manchester City's total from 1995.

But the Echo understands there is no foundation in the story.

The Black Cats appointed Moyes in late July after Sam Allardyce left to take the England job.

Allardyce's departure after a mere 67 days, sacked in the wake of a Daily Telegraph under-cover 'sting', has prompted speculation Big Sam may return to the Stadium of LIght.

However, the Echo understands Moyes is in no imminent danger.

That`s about how things stand atm. I think he`ll get the Hull game. If that comes unglued I`m not sure there`s much chance of a reprieve.

Yeah i had already seen but i didnt take alot of notice when i saw it was The Mirror reporting it.
I was just having a dig at Monty cause he has a habit of starting a thread about media news and he never ever backs it up with a link. He cant have sussed out the art of copying and pasting yet.

Where did the term 'The Axe' come from with regards to getting fired?

Imagine back in the day, if you weren't deemed good enough to put coal into bags, somebody just turns up one day and axes you, right in the face. Bit harsh.

I doubt Moyes will be sacked at all this season.

Obviously they're not gonna come out confirm he's gonna be sacked if he loses, so the response is pretty perfunctory.

His position is surely going to be untenable if you lose on Saturday, a change has to happen. If he's totally lost the dressing room the players may even play extra **** if they think it's gonna get him the boot.

Ceefax/Teletext was the only place to go for transfer rumours, other than buying every paper.

I remember when I was about 7 my mum would hand me the remote and say "Find us a holiday on teletext".

Looking at this from a different angle (yes I know I`m doing it again) but I don`t think the Bournemouth match will be the sacking point. Moyes will be in the stands and have little or no influence on play. That, I think gives him something of a get out.

I think the crunch might come at the next home game. If Hull (Who are at least as bad as we are) beat us at the SOL then the fans could easily turn on Moyes. It could get nasty. If that happens and Short keeps him, that animosity could then turn to him. He hasn`t had any real acrimony directed at him personally. He`s got off rather lightly up to now but he aint going to like that idea one bit. He might elbow Moyes to avoid the personal flak on the grounds of well, he brought him in, it didn`t work but at least he tried kind of thing.

    Just a thought.

If you fail to beat Borunemouth (and you're second favourite for that game, they're a genuinely good side with a good manager) then the Hull match becomes 'must win' for Moyes. Not because he is necessarily going to be sacked but because I think the fans would get nasty, even if it's a draw. There are 3 teams at risk of being cut adrift pretty promptly and if you can't beat the other two when playing them at home you're only heading one way.

When is the international break exactly? Perfect time to get new manager in.
Tbh i was thinking if we can't get BSA back we should just stick with Moyes but on reflection i think we should get rid regardless mainly cos we simply aren't showing any signs AT ALL of improving!
Apart from Allardyce tho who is there? That's the dilema cos i don't think we will get him back here...

To me it makes no difference we have Mourinho, Guardiola, Ancellotti in charge.....managers are paid to get results and it hasn't happened. Even if he took the attitude I'm goin to park the bus in every game till we get to January I could understand but you have to get points. I think I could get more than two......

Bournemouth away - internationals - Hull home on the 19th.

Think Sam`s out of the equation. Seemed to be a bit of a spat. Don`t know whether it was Short & Sam or Short & the FA but they didn`t exactly part the best of pals
