Again, many thanks for your efforts on our behalf, Attivo. Much appreciated by all of us. Will start this day's ball rolling with a go at tomorrow's Melbourne Cup (very early kick-off in the northern hemisphere). Just a modest bet, as it's a truly tough old contest to predict: 04:00 (GMT) Flemington (Melbourne Cup) - Almandin (Just a sporting bet at around 12/1. This European import for the Lloyd Williams outfit seems to have as good a chance as any. Good recent form, showing a decent turn of foot at the finish of his races. On breeding, should certainly stay the 2-mile distance. Light weight, top-class rider, unsure about his barrier draw though? Hopefully, will start the rather sombre All Saints' Day holiday down here where I live on a bright note).
Backing Qewy & Bondi Beach tomorrow for the big race down under. Would like to see Big Orange do it, but no bet for me with Spencer up and carrying top weight in a race as competitive as this.
The Haldon Gold Cup is a head-scratcher. If Dodging Bullets is ready (which I doubt) he should win doing handsprings. I'm wary of such a short price on Garde La Victoire back over fences and the rest don't make that much appeal on paper. Perhaps Harry Fry's ultra-consistent Presenting Arms can have his day in the sun? A tip of the hat to Cyc, enjoy the race that stops a nation mate I'll be trying to beat the fog at Heathrow .........................
I was interested in Gangsta Martin's runner but has a really tough draw. One i do like is Bondai Beach for the speckled one. This race has been the number one target all year and they way the yard has plundered the big races all year you would expect this lad to be on the premises with Moore on board.Of course you need alot of luck in running in a race like this so ew is the play. I'll have a wee saver on Wicklow Brave.Getting up at 4am isn't my cup of tea but I normally manage one sleepy whizz most nights so hopefully my bladder alarm clock will time this one right in seven hours!
Agree - I can see Frankie holding him back and boooom come right down the middle of the field and catch those front runners just at the right moment But incase he doesn't I have a small thing on Mr Big race aka Ryan
Before i put up my Melbourne guesses can I just send all thoughts and best wishes to those jockeys involved in the horrific pile up today and that they are not as badly injured as feared.
Our Ivanhowe @ 40s each way in the Melbourne Cup. Recent form very average but got absolutely mullered in the last couple of furlongs in last year's race when making great headway up the inside. Much more favourable draw this year so should be able to get a better position from which to mount a bid. Having said all that I'd love to see Wicklow Brave prevail. What a horse this one has been for connections. Has it all to do from stall 24 though. Like Ste I hope my night time piss coincides with the race! I'll take Dresden @ 10s in the Haldon Cup too. Good luck all.
If you're limited at Coral you're about to be limited at Ladbrokes as well. An uncompetitive industry gets more in bred by the day.
Terrible incident and sounds particularly nasty for Freddie Tylicki. Fingers crossed. Going for Bondi Beach and Heartbreak City tomorrow..... real shame the timing means it doesn't get the recognition it deserves on an international stage. Seems like madness to have your biggest race of the year on a Tuesday and at a time that doesn't suit any other racing time zones.
Some brighter news, Jim Crowley has been released from hospital. Very sore but ok. Freddie Tylicki remains in intensive care, stable and conscious.
In the Melbourne Cup, I'm going slightly left field and it is one that only caught my eye late- but Beautiful Romance 66/1 just looked a major e/w price with the 6 places afforded by Skybet. In truth, she hasn't really lived up to her promise in the UK yet, but it is the trip that intrigues me most about this one. She goes from gate 1, and runs off 8 stone 4. It's clear that Godolphin have really gone after the race this year but she is the one that flies in under the radar. Have a flick through the dams form- she really did look a stout stayer despite some form figures suggesting otherwise (often ran on too late) and I suspect that when Beautiful Romance has been done for speed in some good races, she might excel from a really handy position and race weight this morning. It is an educated leap of faith in the trip but she has all sorts of untapped potential here. She finished 3rd in the Champions Day 12f Group 1 fillies event in 2015 with the comments as follows: "Settled in midfield, shaken up and progress 3f out, kept on to win battle for 3rd final furlong but never able to threaten leading pair". Bin Suroor Others that look well berthed are the very underrated Gallante 66/1 from a nice draw in barrier 5 who stays really well and the race may end up panning out for him if Big Orange goes too hard in making this a test- there is plenty of speed and he'd be handy sat 3rd or 4th you know. The trainer reckons he is in great nick and a week or so ago said his prep race was just all wrong for him and that he'd be very disappointed if he was not involved in the finish. I have to respect anything that Damien Oliver rides and Exospheric ran a stone wall top trial for this when 3rd in the Caulfield Cup, keeping on well and shaping like an intriguing 2m debutant with some very nice form ties in Europe (Simple Verse, Postponed, Jack Hobbs, Highland Reel and Big Orange). Those would be my three in the field.
