Sunderland’s hopes of bringing Yann M’Vila to the club in January could be dashed.Reports from Russia suggest that M’Vila has entered talks with Rubin Kazan over a new contract. The French midfielder spent last season on loan at the Stadium of Light and played a key role in Sunderland’s survival in the Premier League. M’Vila was desperate to return and declared himself “heartbroken” after his deadline-day transfer fell through at the last minute at the end of August. No deal could be concluded with Sunderland understood to be unhappy with an £8million-plus price tag for a player out of contract at the end of the year. The 26-year-old was initially excluded from the Rubin Kazan squad for the Russian Premier League season and there were hopes he would arrive in January. However, he has since played three times for the club, most recently in the 3-1 defeat at Terek Grozny last week. And news from a Russian website suggests player and club have opened talks over the possibility of him staying on beyond January.
Typical of Sunderland. 8m for M'vila is nothing he has proved He can play in the prem. Then we pay 14m Ndong.
Still think there is more to it that merely refusing to pay the £8 million. Because what you point out doesnt make sense, does it?. Still, its another kick in the balls!
Just another day being an SAFC fan. Its now at a point for me that i expect the worst and when it happens it doesn't ruin my day anymore. Feel for you lads that go to the games every week though, take my hat off to you all.
Fair play to the bloke, he's a much better player than what we can offer him in the next 5-10 years. A monumental screw up and the catalyst for this season's mess (only because he should have been signed before Hodgson was even sacked as England manager).
I think there's far more to the M'Vila deal than any of us know - we all say "tight fisted ****" etc about Short but this deal should've been done, as adz says, long before Sam even had chance of the England job. Although I don't think that was any sort of catalyst personally - the big catalyst for me was Sam getting the England job. Can't help but feel that this season would be so much different if he hadn't. Who could blame M'Vila for not wanting to come here - although, to be honest, he's a free transfer in January and will probably have his pick of clubs. We will be in no position to offer him Premier League football for more than 6 months by the time he signs - I also don;t think we'd be in much better stead if he'd been here - He's only one player (yes a very good one but he can;t do it all on his own)
One of Moyes first views on resigning M'Villa - "was there better value players around" I think Short may have been badly advised again but I know many think Short is a tight fisted ogre and our current demise is all his fault. So who shall we get to replace him ?
We should have never ever allowed M'Villa to leave after last season - he was a vital part of Sam's team. But someone messed up and it was whoever dealing with transfers - Baine, Byrne's legacy , who ? Unlikely it was Short as he's the financier who has made his money by being a risk taking venture capitalist. My view
Probably better than those playing now and not a bad full back Rewind..... Moyes is manager - DW will probably be no improvement in midfield but no worse than the present
NO Dave NO , I remember being shocked by that interview at the time; and it was the first sign that Moyes was totally unprepared when he took this job on, his management so far has not led me to think otherwise. I gave up on M'Vila in January, so it does not come as any surprise, the surprise would be him signing for this Muppet.
Be surprised if he comes to us in Jan anyway since we'll only have about 4 points at this rate. Missed a trick here big style.
