Good Morning Everyone, Do you remember in the Summer when Green joined us and Silvestri was sent back to ER from the Ireland training base. We all believed that Silvestri was about to be sold!!! That wasn't the case!!! please log in to view this image Phil Hay@PhilHayYEP GM said Silvestri's reaction to being sent home from Ireland pre-season is why he's back in fold. "Sometimes you do things that test people" What's that smell? Lewie Coyle suffered medial knee ligament damage during out heroic victory over Norwich and is expected to be out for three months. Good thing we have Berardi back!!! Liam Bridcutt is expected to be back running on the grass during the international break (mid November). The Christmas run in is always a hard one.
Morning Elland and all. Tough one for Coyle. Bank holiday weekend ahead here. Hopefully will get off to a flying start with a resounding one nil Leeds win
Morning Eire, all the best teams do. Can only think of Norwich and Newcastle that are capable of 2 or 3-0's. As an example the Wendies have not won by more than a single goal all season...
Morning all... I'm feeling far more positive about the squad, I don't feel we are promotion contenders and we still have a few things that need fixing but it feels nice to be going in the right direction. Gary Monk is a fool if he thinks anyone believes that one, Silvestre was surplus, he isn't back in the fold, he just plays in the cup games. Green had a stinker of a start for us, Monk could have easily replaced him early doors (glad he didn't). Shame for Coyle but with Berardi back the third choice getting injured shouldn't prove to be a problem. I don't think we are missing Bridcutts absence at present, for me our season depends on Wood, O'Kane, Bartley and Jansson staying fit along with any two from Berardi, Ayling & Taylor. I don't even mind Silvestre covering Green although I did wonder if our defence this season is partly down to Green organising and communicating with those in front of him better than Silvestre does. Interesting tweet I touched on in another thread where one fan was complaining Green barks too much, personally that is just what we need and long may it continue.
Morning Elland, morning all. Pity about Coyle, but we now have cover all over the place, which will give him time to get back to full fitness. On Bridcutt, this week's game would be a good opportunity to give him 20 mins at the end as we should be beating the likes of Burton at a canter. On Green, he's only doing now what I always thought he would. That he's not playing in the league cup is as much an opportunity to keep both him and Silvestri on their toes as anything else. On this weekend, so long as we go out with the right attitude and a 451 formation, we should win easily. This being Leeds, who knows?
Coyle is unlucky but he will be back in January. He is probably 3rd choice at right back after Ayling and Berardi. Wonder if Berardi will replace Taylor to give the kid a rest as his form has dropped recently. Is it transfer plans in his head or has he just got what every kid has and a drop in form being temporary. We need all 3 points from every game we play for the next few weeks, as I want us to be in the top 6 before we welcome the bar codes next month.
Afternoon all, Anyone noticed that we have absolutely no idea why Silvestri was sent home? Might answer a lot of questions if we knew - which is probably why we'll never know. Disappointed that the journos didn't ask such a sensible question. I think Monk came to us with predetermined ideas about Silvestri & Turnbull. A Champions League winner medal holder who couldn't break into the team, and an Italian keeper famed more for his faux pas than his massive contribution since he started playing for us (I reckon he saved us a minimum of 12-15 points a season). He would also be aware that Green was available, so made that call without actually seeing anyone in the flesh to assess. Green was woeful to start, and this may have coloured Monk's thinking on getting rid of Silvestri. He may also have been swayed by Silvestri's performances on the training pitch, and - I'm guessing here - a change in attitude (I'm guessing it's his attitude that got him sent home). Green will soon be signing a contract extension. He is unquestionably the immediate future. I hope & pray that Silvestri is the future next. Turnbull has marked his card by asking for his contract to be paid up. Bailey Double-Barrell may well be the future, but there's no evidence to suggest this yet, just expectation based on his u23 performances. One other point about Silvestri. We compare his performances last season to Green's performances this season. Ask yourself what Green would have been like playing last season with that defence/DM setup in front of him. Now think about Silvestri with our present rock solid defence/DM setup. Point taken?
Marco is right to be number 2 simply because he gets out of position and guaranteed to fook up 6 times each season. Green is like any top keeper and guaranteed 2 fook ups and he did those in his first couple of games. Since then Green has been outstanding and must give the back confidence
In an ideal world we would have someone better than both of them, it's like having two capable back ups
In mitigation, Doc, look who Silvestri had playing in front of him & look who Green has in front of him. How do you think Green would have done last season? I think he only recovered this season because of the guys in front of him. If it was the mob from last season, his confidence would be totally shot by now, & he's be laying out cones. If Silvestri had a run with the current defence, he wouldn't have so many dodgy circumstances to deal with, and would have much more confidence - leading to a much improved performance. Got to be realistic about this.
