Looked very solid today. I hope he can prove that he is more than capable of making that spot his own because he was unstoppable in the air today and to me, the penalty didnt really effect his performance as, even if it was hand ball (i dont think it was) he wouldnt have been able to move out of the way in time. Im looking foward to seeing him play again.....hopefully.

had a nervy 1st 30mins or so, but toher than that was superb, especially in the air and the penalty was never a penalty, so not his fault - i really hope he keeps his place and I really think he can or will after today

Agree, but in the first half he did dilly-dally on the ball once or twice and nearly get caught out?

well thats what you want from a central defensive pair, one good in the air (martin) and one good on the floor (fonte)

Young and promising. Had a good game today but nearly got caught out. Against a better team he might have been.

Fonte look uncomfortable today and wasn't his usual composed self. Think was due to Martin being so jumpy. First half Martin nearly got caught out a couple of times & was lucky. Second half looked better but showed he has no left foot. Hoofed the ball out when a more experienced player would of maintained possession. Not a bad performance, will he keep the shirt ? Not sure.

The crowd around us was asking about why had Martin started ? The bloke watching above us said he had been told Seaborne not been at the training ground all week. Apparently had a virus. Someone said he hasn't trained all week. Also Jaidi had a knee injury which would explain Martins surprise start.

Just shows you can get your chance when you are least expecting it.

Martin for me should start every game, if we can get a working partnership going between him and Fonte I don't see the need for a new CB. He could easily play in the Premiership one day and you can't say that about Seaborne, yes he needs a run in the team and he is still learning but he has so much potential so why not exploit that? Also you have to remember he's come in from playing non-league football and has only played 10 or so times in our first team! Shame about the penalty - was a ridiculous decision, but other than that I thought he looked very solid.

Can I also just say to the people who slate Martin for being "nervy" but yet think Harding is God's gift to football: What planet are you actually on? Am I the only one who thinks Dickson is better in every department or what? Dan just runs around like a headless chicken most of the time. Apart from that, no complaints at all with the performance this evening - don't mean to tarnish the result by slating Harding as I thought he did okay-ish today but it frustrates me when we have a better player sitting in the reserves than the one being played week-in-week-out.

Yes, yes and yes. Ryan Dickson all the way. But lets not let this turn into another one of those stupid arguments.

Yesssssss, thank you! Not what I was intending to do anyway but yeah, let's just all agree that we disagree when it comes to our LB's. I've figured there's no point questioning it anymore as it won't change, not even after Dicko's sparkling performances at the end of last season, soooo hey ho.. As long as we're doing okay I won't complain :D - too much...

As we were stood waiting for our son to get autographs from the team. My wife asked a player where Seaborne & Jaidi was today. We were told Seaborne hadn't trained all week. Virus or infection. He joked that he had been banned due to being contagious & wasn't allowed to go to the game either. ha we laughed and said he must of been red carded from the game then. Jaidi they said had picked up injury to knee in training. This would make sense why both were missing today & the bench looked like it did with only Butterfield for defence cover.

Yeah heard in the crowd today Seaborne sick. Not trained all week by all accounts. Shame when people are left guessing about where players are. Sky also said Jaidi had an injury. Was funny as radio solent reported they had been told both fit for selection.

Thought Martin was dealt with harshly by giving away the pen.
From where we were sat looked like hit his chest & deflected onto his arm. Harsh decision I felt but others around us said as a defensive player if you raise you arms you are putting yourself at risk. Still felt harsh especially as his first start in ages.
Clean sheet would of made it a perfect result.

Martin - excellent today, yes a couple of nervy moments but not disastrous. Looked composed after that and positionally excellent. Great in the air and made two last ditch tackles.

I blame Harding for that. Once, he took the pressure off himself by selfishly passing it to Martin rather turning and passing it to Lallana, and the other time he virtually took a shot at Martin! Bring back Dickson when fit who, in my opinion, will be one of the best left backs in the division! Also I think today's defence is our strongest with Dickson instead of Harding.

Other than that, superb performance all around and a thoroughly deserved 3 points.
