He made more errors than any other player leading to goals last season. Not just goalkeepers, that's every single player that played in the PL last season.

Everyone goes by what they see, but everything you see needs to be put into context. He is a 23 year old goalkeeper who hasn't played in this league before and he's played something like 4 games for us.

At the moment, yes. But even if he wasn't, surely we were expecting a significant, clear upgrade? We needed one.
You're right, he might improve - on the other hand he might not. You're dealing in hypotheticals, and I'm just talking about what I'm seeing right now.
I hope he comes good, but my argument is against all of you who are adamant he's an obvious improvement right now - when he quite clearly isn't.

think he'd be a world-class cheerleader if we put pom-poms on his wrists the way he flaps them about. He has the looks too.

One of the problems of long-distance running is trying to lap the noisy, obdurate back-markers like Uniturd.

Would that be the back marker that finished 3 places ahead of you in the last race?

I don't think we've seen the real Karius yet. Not sure how often you see the true ability of a keeper at his age. Let alone in a league where he hasn't had much to do.

Migs had season after season to stamp his mark on the GK spot and failed.

Lets not write Karius off yet. He's young and performed well in the German league (so I'm told/have read) so lets give him time to see what he does. Keepers rarely settle quickly. Even Cech was dodgy when he moved to Arsenal and that's with 10 seasons in the PL for experience!

I wouldn't worry too much, he is a very good shot stopper (first requirement of a keeper) and handled the rest of the job well enough in the BL. The PL takes a bit of getting used to but he will get there.

    Just saw Stekelenburg <laugh>

It's good we have such high standards but FFS people are going so far out of their way to look for things to moan about with Karius now

Nah, I just say it like I see it with players I have actually seen play a few times. I have seen Karius a few times before he came to you and think he will be a good acquisition.
I had never seen Matip before he came to you (or nothing I had noticed) but am already prepared to state he is a well above the average.
Like I said, I only say what I see, unfortunately when I see poor players I get called a wum until it dawns on people that I may be right :(

No Marius was the guy who was Julius Caesar's mentor wasnt he? If I remember my history; Marius and Sulla were enemies, Caesar was one of Marius's men. Sulla revived the title of dictator (which Caesar later took for himself)

All this GK discussion shows this:

We are in a good position DESPITE the goalie (whether Karius or mignolet) not because of him. If we had a really top GK like Neuer or DeGea, we'll be favourites for the title and very few people would disagree. We've not had any GK in the last 20 years who turned likely defeats into draws or draws into wins.

I read Tom Holland's Rubicon last year, good narrative on the uprising of the Roman empire. Is he the guy who allowed poor men who didn't need to own land to become a soldier?
