All the new ones are flying saucer or bird's nest type aren't they, a bit samey after a while. For the sake of the city I would hope for something sympathetic to the location. red brick exterior maybe, definitely rectangular. As there's a listed building on the site incorporate that like Goodison's done with St. Luke's - that can be your thing
Thing is in America every college has better stadiums and facilities than our best football stadiums, let alone their professional arenas.
I agree mate, it needs to fit within the landscape of what the dock will end up being. Not sure whether that necessitates it being red brick or rectangular though. As the Echo arena is neither, yet it sits comfortably next to the Albert Dock imo. Planners tend to hate 'faux' anyway, they prefer new buildings to be distinctive, but of their own time. I think it needs to be something that you'd see lit up as you sailed down the Mersey on your cruise ship (who'd have thought it hahaha) and you'd say 'wow'. Iconic, of it's time, but not over bearing in it's environment would be my view.
That's why the rumoured Chelsea one looks **** IMO. A design can be inspired by the surroundings without literally looking like it's made of the same material. What part of Croxteth do you think Dan Meis will use as his main inspiration?
Well they're going from this: please log in to view this image So even this would be an improvement: please log in to view this image
How about this. One of the best stadiums never built. Portsmouth had this designed but financial circumstances dictated it was never built. If you want to go along the modern rather than traditional - talk about a stadium fitting a location ..... please log in to view this image
tbh if the new stadium was being built anywhere other than the docks I would have very little interest. For the sake of the city I think it should 'fit in' with it's location. If it was up to Joe, anything would do as long as the council get something out of it, he can't be relied on when it comes to tasteful/appropriate to the area applications as evidenced by what's been allowed to be built on some of the city's prime locations.
If you look at that, it was never getting built. not anything like that anyway. That is another classic blow smoke owner wh owas spending a little to look good but had zero intent. You can tell every time you see a set of plans how much did this cost again? please log in to view this image this one actually exists please log in to view this image as does this one (horrid) please log in to view this image this one does not please log in to view this image it is with respect not the purview of small clubs to build vanity projects like the examples above. small clubs need to make it work financially. (which is FSGs point) Look at barcelona's plans for the camp nou. please log in to view this image disgusting looking. please log in to view this image the point being its all vanity as whats being built will never pay itself back really. the same amount of seats (about 6-8k more max) Portsmouth were never going to afford or fill that ground. ever..
You're right, the Portsmouth Docklands one was never going to be built, given the timing of it as much as anything else. The reason I posted it was just to show how design - with location in mind - can be stunning. And I actually like the Allianz
Ged Fitzgerald from Liverpool council: "We obviously now wait to see what conversations take place between Everton FC and Peel, the owners of the site, and see whether a deal can be done." The deal was agreed ages ago Ged @Tobes #itk
