Watching the City game tonight the commentator keeps referring to Messi being the best player in the world?? I dont agree.
To me Ronaldo is the most complete Footballer weve ever had in the history of the game. He has no weakness whatsoever.
He has played for different clubs and adapted to different philosophys and playing styles/ formations unlike Messi whos only ever played for Barca that is tailor made to suit him, hence the fact his performances for Argentina are somewhat substandard compared to the invincible footballer he portrays himself at Barca. Unfortunatley for him Iniesta is Spanish.

Ronaldo on the other hand practically single handidly qualifys an avererage Portugese team for every tournament, not to mention their success in the Euros.

What is everybody else opinion on this??

I know who id rather play for Sunderland if both were available for free.

Imagine how good Ronaldo and Anichibe would be playing alongside eachother<yikes>

I can definately see the arguments for both as you've already mentioned Tees.

Who do I enjoy watching play more? Messi

Barcelona bore the pants off me to be honest with all this tippy tappy passing, so i cant really enjoy watching him.
Id love to see how Messi plays in the Premiership.

The whole world seem to be trying this whole playing out from the back type of football, problem is not many have the tools good enough to do it. Think of us with Poyet, Bridcutt being his Iniesta.

I reckon everyone would try and kick him up a height, likes of West Brom (among others) and I reckon he'd piss his pants laughing as he skipped past them all.

Everything he does is just effortless like that goal he's just knocked in (second one I mean as he's just completed his hattrick).

Funny that he's had a poor game (by his standards) and is walking away with the match ball.

Reckon Neymar could get anywhere close to Ronaldo/Messi?

Id have Suarez over Neymar anyday.

Imagine if Messi played for us, Burnley or Wba. How do you reckon he'd do compared if Ronaldo played for the same teams??

Aye, Suarez has been unreal for them. Also dragged Liverpool to almost winning the leage.

If I had to choose out the two of Messi/Ronaldo for Sunderland I'd have Ronaldo. (Knew we should never have let Bridcutt go, then I'd have chosen Messi) :emoticon-0105-wink:

Tbh, I think Ronaldo is a bit petulant, whereas messi is the ultimate goal scoring machine. What's their goal scoring stats?

Edit: just checked, Messi has 98 more goals in 300 less appearances.

No idea mate, hopefully someone might enlighten us.
Ronaldo scored about 45 in his last season for Man Utd and moved to Spain and continued with similar stats.
Messi only knows Barca, hes been there since he was about 6. Take him out his comfort zone and hes not happy, hence his record for Argentina.

Think they're both absolutely brilliant but nobody gets anywhere near Messi for me.

I've watched a lot more La Liga over the years than the Premier League (it's a lot more entertaining for me) and I've seen both Barca and Real struggling then up pop's their star man to get them the 3 points. I don't see why Messi would have to leave Barca to prove himself either before he comes to the end of his career, anywhere he go's to is a big step down (let's face it he's not going to be seen dead in a Real Madrid shirt!)

Also, his record against England teams shows he'd manage in a league cup 2nd round tie against Stoke on a wet Tuesday night.

That all being said, I do think Neymar deserved the last world player of the year over both Messi and Ronaldo.

56 in 114 at international level is pretty brilliant to be honest and also better than Ronaldo's at Portugal if you're looking at individual stats.
