That's for fresh water fishing - i.e. course fishing.

Different fishing licenses give you different fishing rules.

Course fishing you have to return them (non migratory trout and course license)

Game fishing is different and sea fishing you don't even require a license.

Exceptions for trout.

These are guidelines not rules fatboy, I've never known any freshwater anglers take fish to eat excepting game fish. Besides bream, perch & roach and fish of that ilk taste like ****. Only carp are remotely edible but only Spuds eat those!

 

You will find consensus on the mininum weight/dimensions between the authorities
for coarse angling. All the licences I had to buy (LAA, TWA etc) were thus so.

The ginger tiddler has to be returned to not606 waters, no matter how badly or
repeatedly it impales itself on the hook.
