Brilliant matches, would love to have seen Rory win that one and Mickleson i think had 10 birdies and still couldn't win.
Difference boiled down to the putting, we were dog ****e, i reckon i could have putted better than half them twats playing for yoorope.
That's what the Ryder cup is for me, pissed off we lost mind and thought Clarke took too big a gamble with all them rookies playing.

 

It was epic watching at times.

Westwood missing that put on Saturday with the last shot of the day and losing the match instead of a half was criminal.

 

The only reason i think Westwood was in the team was coz he is Clarks buddy, sure they could have had better players in than half the rookies.
Apparently Casey was in the team but decided not to play because he wanted to spend time with his family?
One of the biggest sporting events in the world and he turns it down.
Brilliant event and hoping for better things in Paris in 2 years time.

 

that was a big turning point. Moore and Homes were poor. Westy missed a crucial short un at 17 too. He was very poor, so was Kaymer til the last match that didn't matter.

On another note, been cracking golf conditions right now. Bit nippy - around 8 degrees in the morning - but sunny, blue skies and crisp weather, course in fantastic nick and golf good with it.

Just shot a 74, and there's not much run on the ball.... feel like taking the week off to play golf.

The simple answer to the question is because Paul Casey did not take up his membership of the European Tour. In order to encourage more of the top players to compete in territories outside the US, players must take up membership of the European Tour to be eligible for European selection. This means competing in five regular Tour events (excluding majors and WGCs). For Rory McIlroy (who is also based in the US) this meant competing in Abu Dhabi and Dubai at the start of the season and then in Ireland in May and France in July. The Northern Irishman will reach his quota of Tour events by competing in the Final Series events at the end of the season.

For the Englishman the commitment of competing in five regular European Tour explains why Paul Casey is not eligible for the Ryder Cup. Casey lives in Arizona and plays full time on the PGA Tour. He is engaged to television presenter Pollyanna Woodward, has a young son and his decision not to take up membership of the European Tour has precluded him from making Darren Clarke’s team. Earlier this year, Casey told Sky Sports, “My decision was never about the Ryder Cup, which is what I always get asked. The decision was about what’s best for my family, and unfortunately, the by-product is what it is.”

So he only had to bugger off for 5 EPGA tournaments over 8-9 months to set up the chance to qualify for a place in the Ryder Cup.

I would have thought that rather a pathetic excuse for not making the effort until I saw your next post!

Still sounds a bit odd to me though. Having already played in it a few times you'd think he'd be chomping at the bit to be involved again.

 

Indeed, i would imagine any golfer would dream to play in the Ryder Cup, obviously his priorities are elsewhere.
If i were in charge next time in Paris i wouldn't give him a second thought.
Any ideas who the next captain is gonna be?

 

Thomas Bjorn is the big early front runner with the bookies. He'll be a big favourite with the players, he was head of their player union for a few years, you get that by election by your peers so he must be a popular bloke to start with. Hes been a vice captain several times as well. I'm not sure when the selection is set for though.

As for Casey, if he's on form and wants to play then I'd pick him. This time round just proved how much you need in-form players turning up on the day.

 

I also think Bjorn will be Captain, would be a great choice. I will be interested to see the crowd next time. The Yanks have now set the bar.... I cannot imagine fans from the UK and Ireland will forget that in a hurry. As for Casey...if he's on form, he is world class...I play him all day long.

 

I see Close House and Lee Westwood is going to host the British Masters next year...I played the old Close House course a few times, but have not played the new one £110 a round they can sod right off...anybody played it?

Not me mate, i am playing the London Club which is supposedly very exclusive.
Got a deal for £80, breakfast roll on arrival with a goody bag, 18 holes of golf and a 2 course dinner.
My mates wife works for the European tour so every now and again we get a decent deal.

 

That driving range behind the Causey Arch pub is canny like.
Was sore as **** the next day.

 

Not me but played Celtic Manor. That was an experience and good one at that. Strongly recommend the place and there are plenty of deals on offer through various websites.
