Or maybe we could have 2 Daily Threads. A Division 1 and a Division 2 if you like – (i) for serious tips / what you are having for lunch and (ii) for those desperate to ‘win’ the comp!

Chaps, this seems to have been blown out of proportion so i just want to reign it in a little and explain my thought process behind it:

The offer of a few bottles of wine was not meant as a competition. It was only ever intended as a well done if someone does something outstanding. It wasn't even really a marketing thing. I just happen to have a lot of wine and a way to get it to people without it costing me a fortune.

I genuinely didn't expect anyone to be so keen to win three bottles of wine for Christmas that they'd ruin their reputation on here by tipping up any old rubbish on the off chance they hit it big.

I don't have any interest in religiously monitoring everybody's selections - all i intended to do was take a look at the DT at the end of the day and check if we've had any decent winners. 15 minutes a day tops. If someone's done the business they get some time in the sun because what tends to happen on here is the usual suspects that have a following get a disproportionate amount of BADA BINGS whilst those a little more under the radar get next to no praise for some outstanding shouts.

Info - i'd almost certainly not give the wine to an info selection BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN THERE ISN'T A PLACE FOR INFO ON THIS SITE - it's just a personal preference.

I also do not want to impact the quality of the daily thread. Without that this place would be like any other rubbish forum. Keeping that threads integrity is key.

So, based on what i've said above, i think you chaps are right and the biggest priced winner isn't going to cut the mustard. For me, betting on horses isn't about hitting it lucky every blue moon with a 50/1 shot. The most impressive part of tipping for me is when the person fully understands a race, it's entrants and anticipates how a race will be run. I love it when you find a false favourite and are hugely confident about another runner and it comes off or when you think a market is wrong about a horses chances.

So, what i've decided to do is run the thread in the manner it was intended. I'll monitor the DT every day and when i see something worth flagging up i will. If we see something great between now and Christmas there may be a little congratulations winging its way to them but equally, if nothing is worth shouting about i'll not be mentioning it and the vino will be staying in my cellar.

Hope that appeases us all. If not, let me know and i'll avoid adding your particular tips to the thread because i don't want to cause any offence to anyone during this.

ps if you think your tip should be on here and it's not then apologies but it's a subjective thing and i'll most likely be using the DT and the participants comments on the day to help decide what makes the list.

I'll start it properly from this Saturday.
