    Interesting read.

    Also from within you link...

"The UK runs a £60bn trade deficit with the EU, despite single market access, while generating a £30bn surplus when trading with the rest of the world, with no single market. "
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2016/10/15/let-sterling-slide---what-matters-now-is-qe/

Meanwhile, our gov't continues to line up trade deals pre-Brexit...

...Britain’s trade minister Lord Price said he is touring countries with which the EU has free trade deals with the aim of convincing them to extend the deals to the UK after Brexit.

As the EU has deals of various types in place with around 50 countries, from South Korea to Egypt to Mexico, adopting these would save Britain time negotiating new deals from scratch.

“Around 13pc of UK exports go to countries that the EU has an free trade agreement (FTA) with. There are a number of FTAs currently being negotiated by the EU - Canada, the USA, Japan. If those FTAs were signed before we were to leave the EU, that would be another 34pc of UK exports,” Lord Price told a committee of Lords.

Price assumes - naively - that if the EU sign a FTA with those listed before we exit the EU, then we can continue to trade under the same terms.

Has he never heard of economy of scale? What makes him think that they'll all simply allow the UK to piggy back the terms they've negotiated with the other 27 countries of the EU?

Why do you think we run a deficit with countries nearer to us and a surplus further afield?

Any trade agreement with the EU could require renegotiation anyway as quoters will be screwed.

We shall stop buying Mercs and BMWs and start buying good British cars like Nissans.

It's just rinse and repeat on here.

The remoaners are largely stuck in an extension of the failed 'project fear' mode. Blindly accusing everyone else of being not half as clever as them, and racist, and then posting articles that show the economy may take a dip, which most expected anyway. The EU can't give us an easy ride or their whole scam falls apart.

Threads like these are doomed to be stuck in the same cycle as long as there's a noisy minority that see in a binary 'them and us' winning and losing way rather than discussing.

There's probably a fair amount people are in agreement about, because there's pretty much a consensus that the EU as was, was in dire need of change.

You can't try and take the moral high ground, when you start your post with the term - remoaners.

I think that there are precedents to give us some positive expectations should we choose to see them.

This whole Brexit issue is far from the black & white one we are all guilty of trying to paint on this forum. Any hope of a decent debate is being held back by the attention seeking ITK ( :emoticon-0136-giggl ) snide estate agent who is only here to kill time whilst waiting for a punter to walk in off the high street. He feeds the trolling aspect whenever he can (and we allow) and it just pushes the discussion further into the dirt.

Ok, you may have the odd 'tourettes' rant, but you do know what you're talking about. Even NSIS is capable of the odd sane comment, though he is more than a little condescending with his "it's true because I said so" approach and blind devotion to everything the snide says.

The fox, pnp, archers and a couple of other hangers on are tolerable, but I am 100% certain that this could still become a very interesting debate if the snide estate agent were not able to post to it.
