Well since the 3rd manager has only played 7 games in the PL I would not like to comment. The first year (manager 1) we finished 7th (not bad for rebuilding), the second year (manager 2) we finished 4th (improvement), the 3rd year (manager 2 again) we finished 5th on goal difference (about the same as year 2), this year (manager 3) we are 7 games in (8 by tomorrow night) and it's far too soon to say anything about the season this early. The scousers beat City quite well early last season and were all excited about their title chances, they finished 8th As the voice of experience, I do accept your words about the new manager treadmill though and hope you can get off it soon
Not much wrong with our defence mate, we finished joint lowest goals against last season and now have Shaw back and Bailly added. The attack let us down badly last season and is yet to prove itself this season.
United's next 6 domestic games include: Liverpool A Chelsea A Citeh H EFL Cup Arsenal H Lose 2 or 3 of those and Mourinho's going to start falling apart again. Win none and it's time for the men in the white coats. Better not lose to them Mousers.
The Luke Shaw that doesn't play as well as Antonio Valencia? That Luke Shaw? Mourinho will destroy that kid.
The question is : will Jose be sacked if Man Utd are not in the CL come May ?? Since Fergie retired, that seems to have been the deal for his successors.
I don't see his appointment at United working out. His title win 2 seasons ago at Chelsea came the year before Leicester and was a sign of how far some of the 'big' teams had fallen. A Chelsea team that didn't get out of second gear, after we destroyed them 5-3, won the league pretty comfortably. That isn't going to happen again any time soon. United are still a long way short of being a balanced team. They've no right back of any substance. The central defenders are a mixed bag with all of them looking like they need a reliable leader to play alongside them. Shaw has real potential but is young and Mourinho looks to be doing a Joe Cole on him. The central midfield is a bit of a mess and their best team probably includes Carrick which is a bit worrying considering the number of options they've got and how much they've spent. Schneiderlin who should be in or near the team seems not to have a future there. It'll be interesting to see how well a Herrera and Pogba pairing get on against a pressing team like the Mousers. I don't see top 4 this season as there's no balance in their team and there are others who do have that. They're not exceptional or pacy up front, Rashford apart. I don't seem Lingaard as any better than Andros at this point. If they don't get CL then the pressure is really on Mourinho and he doesn't like that at all. Gone before the end of that second season, for me
My thesis is that the manager is hired on a 'CL or out' understanding, based on Moyes and LVG. Obviously we cannot be certain on this, as LVG got in the CL in his first season. I doubt current-day Jose agreed to such terms (Jose of 10 yrs ago might have) .
