Fair enough, but it strikes me that the funds could be reallocated very easily, given how much they take from us. The government give it on our behalf, maybe why so many are annoyed, but if we gave nothing, how would that be better? Are people really that selfish?

For centuries Britain underwent conflict with thousands suffering torture and death. In the end we sorted out our country and , not so long ago in the scheme of things, sorted out our own destiny through parliamentary democracy. Whilst I don't wish pain and suffering on anyone I think these countries should be left alone to sort out their destiny without any other nations meddling.

 

To me it isn't important. You could always try and find out if its important to you.

 

We have supposedly intelligent people running countries & economies around the world. They could very easily come up with a solution but they choose not to.

There's absolutely no need for anybody, here, there or anywhere to be homeless, hungry, without healthcare or without other basic human rights such as a life, liberty, freedom & the right to be treated with dignity.

It's not about money or where the money comes from, it's about doing what's right.

You're right its not about me or you. Its about whether children should be reunited with their parents who happen to live in this country. Unless there are very good reasons why he shouldn't be re-united then I don't see why the child in question shouldn't be allowed in to live with his dad. the good reasons would be linked to child abuse, either physical or mental not whether they are foreign or not.

 

How come his dad doesn't come and fetch him?

I've got no idea. Like I said before its not important to me. The kids thirteen and should be with his dad rather than stuck in Calais. The British government could just let him into the country to live with his dad.

You do realise that the kid's case, like thousands of others, relies on people accepting his version of events?

He has evaded countless border controls to get to Calais.
He and his Dad should be in Afghanistan or the nearest safe country.

That's kind of a romanticised myth. During WWI and WWII most lads who enlisted did so for 'King and Country'; not because they believed in an anti-fascist crusade. Some soldiers in armed forces may have been committed anti-fascists, particularly those who fought during the Spanish Civil War on the Republican side, but the majority weren't.
