yep some people just never know when to quitt bang on scott, but im sure if it was cardiff your posters would have swamped our board
Don't forget the stadium wasn't built just for the swans!! The ospreys are also in the mix. Thats all i can be bothered to say on the matter as it is booooooring me to death and what the f@@@ am i doing on this bored at 7.40am have a nice day all gonna play golf and get drunk
I think it's more a question of ethics and morality rather than obligation. Yes, the stadium provides a benefit to the wider community however the main beneficiary is the football club. Either way, I don't know enough of the situation to make a judgement on the matter although it is clear how the situation can be twisted in any direction to support or attack a particular point of view. As a side issue, superswan; you are very naive if you think that Swansea's promotion will provide anything more than a marginal benefit to the city of Swansea, never mind Wales. Yes, the locals will have a greater sense of pride but realistically that is where it ends. This would be the case with Cardiff should we ever get promoted. Look at Hull as an example; does the city have a larger profile now? Is it's economy booming from Premier League football? Same can be said of Burnley, Blackpool and even current Premier League sides like Blackburn and Wigan. Enjoy you're time at the top table, but don't get carried away with the external benefits!

Yes, the locals will have a greater sense of pride but realistically that is where it ends.. your way wrong ninian, with the swans in the premiership it puts wales on the international world stage.....just listen to the people in power they would know how we as a nation will benefit.......they are over the moon.....so if im naive then so are the Am's in the welsh assembly.....it was their words that i quoted..
Didn't I read somewhere that blackpool's one season in the premier league was worth approximately £30m to the local economy directly ? And a whole lot more to the exposure of the city to a worldwide audience and the business that comes with that
For years? How? I agree that being in the Prem raises the clubs profile but how does the rest of the City get a huge benefit? The same amount of away fans come...most leave as soon as the game is done. Tourism is not going to increase! Why do you think this would provide anything for the city but a nice one season bonus money for the club. Meanwhile the loyal supporters are having their wallets stretched ( a lot when you look at that BBC article) a hell of a lot for the pleasure. Seems the club is definitively aiming to squeeze every pound it can out of this season A part of me understands why the club will do this of course...sad fact about football.
"Tourism is not going to increase". A spot of crystal ball gazing there. It may not,but then again,it may.No way of knowing until sometime in 2012. The truth is,NOBODY knows what effect Premier League status will have on Swansea, and it's surroundings. So we will all have to wait and see.
True...only time will tell, just have never heard of newer clubs in the prem getting a boost in tourism. Anyway, regardless of that the clubs performance will reflect on the city I guess, and of course on Wales. I therefore wish you the best.
Sorry to throw a spanner in the works here, but I would think that we would need to be in the Prem for some years for it to pay dividends for the wider economy, and I don't see it as a significant boost for commerce in Swansea, though I might be wrong! I'm sure our local economist Dai will put me right though!.................. please log in to view this image
Think you are wrong there phil, we have sold out the Wigan game for start, so that is 4k-5k extra fans going to that game, a proportion those fans will spend money, also pubs and clubs will get a boost if games are on live, certain pubs stream video in It all adds up, economists also say other financial boosts will be there like hotels having away fans there, more them are likely to stay around Swansea for the weekend, businesses are looking at ways to boost their images on the back of the swans. It's hard to calculate yes as businesses are unlikely to post figures that reflect this, but needless to say that almost all businesses in the locality will benefit from thousands of extra fans being there
Yes that I see happening, in fairness to you, but how much that will impact on the grand scheme of things in the larger economy, I don't know, though I hope your right!.............. please log in to view this image
If you believe everything the AMs say you are even more naive than I first thought! £30m is small change in terms of a city/regional economy; particularly when spread over a year. I studied economics and my lecturer specialised in the effects of sporting events on local economies so we covered a lot of that, and trust me what politicians say is grossly exaggerated. Just enjoy your football guys!
Yes it is, but an additional circa £30m is an unexpected windfall for countless businesses around Swansea, times have been tough around here anything to give a boost is a good thing! And yes we will enjoy the football, thanks
you are on the same wave length as me jager.. there are so many advantages that we wont know about or even think about why us being in the premiership will benefit swansea and wales as a whole, If cardiff can join us it would be even better.
Makes a change there is a feel good factor around the club right now, and local businesses should be cashing in on opportunities as they arise, pubs, hotels, clubs, restaurants & local retailers are the obvious ones, train, coach companies and taxi firms less obvious, but they are all about to get a boost with the swans in the premier league.
