Well, that was a great qualifying. Normally I think anyone who is within .5 of the Mercs is going to have the race pace to beat them, but after last weeks engine failure I suspect they didn't turn the wick up for quali. Haas were amazing, can Gutierrez get some much needed points? I think it's fair to say FI have taken Williams as the customer bench-mark. I have a feeling Hamilton isn't going to finish the race, his mind is in the wrong place after the ridiculous hoo-haa over the nothing snap-chat, the only people with bigger egos than the famous are the people who write about them.
On weekends like this one I do wonder whether F1 wouldn't be better off if Hamilton was to retire. We've had a close quali and potentially a 6 way fight for the win tomorrow. But instead of talking about that, the media outlets are dominated by his hissy fit, thrown because some journalists have the temerity to call him out for a disengaged and insolent press conference. Maybe, just maybe, F1 could go back to being about itself again, rather than a vehicle for the Lewis Hamilton show.
IMHO , NO . Hamilton is a character ( One I don't like , but an excellent driver ) and we need Characters in ALL sports .
HAM is a complete knob, but the British media is the biggest issue here. We want the best drivers in closely matched cars- and like him or hate him he is one of the best.
please log in to view this image I do expect his to win tomorrow, but I think at this stage Nico would make a better WDC for the sport.
As odd as it seems Hamilton isn't the issue here. Yes his character easily rubs people up the wrong way but he doesn't really go out of his way for attention, which again may sound odd. He dissappears between races and gets on with his life, others follow and paparazzi him. He foot in mouths a lot, but always in live post event interviews. He's online click bait, something that you could blame the fans for almost. The media wouldn't peddle it if people didn't react to it. It's hard to see sometimes. Is it a Lewis problem, is it a media problem, or is it a fans problem? Not much is happening in F1 so have the fans simply created a villan? The media exists to sell stories, not to simply tell the facts. Hamiltons obvious talent and even more obvious imperfections has produced F1 click bait never seen before. But who really has the control to change this?
I think he deserves far more credit - he knows exactly what he's doing. Maybe the snapchat things was blown out of proportion (maybe not?), but why revisit it by reraising the event and attack by accusing the press? Somebody who didn't want the attention would have just let it be, not give more ammunition to further the discussion, debate....
Perhaps, or maybe he really has had enough. He has a massive ego but surely even his doesn't stretch far enough to enjoy almost a decade of a ridiculous media circus. We can only speculate what the end game is, but I couldn't care less. I wish the journalists would concentrate on F1, but I know I'm a member of a ever shrinking group who couldn't care less about celebs and stupid faux reality TV.
Hamilton can be a massive knob sometimes, and sometimes he's his own worst enemy. Sometimes I'd like to give him a massive whack upside the head. But when he's at his best, he's one of the finest racers of the last few decades. I just wish he'd stay focused on his racing and screw everything else. A little humility wouldn't go a miss.
Looks like Force India will beat Williams in the Constructors championship. Have to say I have been dissapointed with Williams this season.
Anyone else get annoyed when the commentators get names wrong? Talking about Ricciardo on Bottas and I'm like. It's Massa. He keeps going with the Bottas and I start shouting at my TV. IT'S MASSA! xD
