Doesn't seem as though other counties are more savvy as opposed to having larger debts but better off local authorities such as Warwickshire.

Interesting article from earlier in year.

Can hardly say some of the bigger other counties are better managed if other counties have larger debts and also looking for "help".

So why have these counties not been relegated? Simply because they have been given subsidies from the local council? I very much doubt that is the case. Timing of tests, council subsidies will explain part of the problem. I'd like to see a commercial report/annual accounts of the counties to judge. These biased newspaper reports tell us little. We need genuine factual information to truly judge what has gone wrong.

I don't want to be to harsh but I honestly think while we can partly blame other bodies and point to outside influences, I would bet my last £1 the ****er has been run badly. Harker had buried his head with his "im not worried stance" rather than pro actively seeking the solution.

As I said at the start I accept Durham are the ones at fault. My gripe is the apparent excessive nature of the punishment particularly given that Durham are by no stretch of the imagination the biggest debtor in County Cricket.

I've looked, not too extensively though, and can't find any guidance as to the penalties available and strengthens my view as to the "on the hoof" nature of how the penalties were imposed.

Also whilst the vast majority of the blame falls on Durham I also feel that the ECB are hiding their own culpability in the sad affair.

Ultimately I do agree that to make any hard and fast opinion all the facts need to be known and there's little chance of that happening.

Expected a punishment, a fine yes, either relegation or a huge points deduction yes, a ban from test until the finances are sorted possibly. As for the ECB it's one rule for some one for another. As pointed out other teams in more debt and Warwickshire, Glamorgan, Yorkshire and Hampshire all got away with similar situation apparently.
