Very disappointing opening game with some worrying situations............. Gulacsi shows very poor judgement on when and when not to come out for crosses.Adebola must be the poorest target man I've seen in a Tigers shirt by quite a long way,he can't jump more than 3 inches off the ground and for a big man he is eased off the ball with monotonous regularity. When you add that to his gangling immobility and lack of pace I really can't see why Nigel brought him in and can well understand why Forest only used him off the bench when desperate.Matty Fryatt had a "mare" he was sluggish and needed three touches when one would have sufficed .McKenna never got a mention throughout the first half and was very ineffective throughout the whole game .Koren and Cairney where "In and Out" and only Brady really stood out. The whole team failed to work as a unit but regardless of all of the above we had enough chances ,had we been sharper, to actually win the game.Blackpool for their part where slicker in passing and seemed more determined to get a result . As the title says it's going to be a long hard season and we'll need better finishing if we are going to be challenging for a play off spot.
Considering it was the first game of the season our strikers can be forgiven and will only improve as the season goes on, all in all we played well and should of won by 2-3 goals.
Too many positives tonight to get worried. Really could have gone either way tonight. Only real concerns for me were gulacsi and dudgeon who I thought struggled at times and wasn't particularly bright when under pressure.
Dudgeon was a little impetuous and immature but I think more from a desire to impress the fans in his first competative championship game .I'm sure Nigel will reign him in with a few well chosen words. Gulacsi is a serious worry however and I would like to see Basso given the next game,he impressed me when he played against us at Wembley for Brizzle.
wasnt very impressed with gulacsi, flapped around alot and his distribution wasnt that good, kicked it as far as possible to anyone there. in another game fryatt would have put those chances away, long season guys!
gulacsi looks nervous... surely there's a better player in there somewhere.. just needs a few games i think. good 1st game performance. didnt deserve to lose, not the end of the world.
Am as worried as everyone else dem on..but christ!..give it chance! its our first game together as A UNIT as u say.I said 4weeks ago that theres alot on simpsons shoulders this season and so far am right with a glorious one point equalizer chance squandered!.However far too early for your bold season defining opening thread..think ill stick with my 9th place prediction as Blackpool at home will be realized later on in season as 3 points lost! ps..congrats on your new job in stoke Febbos will be looking for the yellow n blue flag soon!
It was a flattering result for Blackpool really, they defended pretty well which was quite surprising after seeing them last year. As has been mentioned Fryatt and Simpson had chances that should have been put away and Cairneys free kick against the post could easily have been a goal given an inch or two to the left. Mckenna was too much of a bystander for me and gave away silly passes, evans should start next game. Simpson should of come on instead of Barms in my opinion and we could have used his pace to stretch their defence more. Cairney and Brady were definetely pluses for me. Although Cairney did drift out a little, his defensive side has definetely improved as has his strength. The defence was pretty solid apart from Hobbs playing himself into trouble at one point and a couple of indecisive moments, but that can be forgiven in the first league game. Dudgeon was a bit edgy, although to be fair that was the lads 3rd league game of his career. Adebola was holding the ball up faily well, although the knockdowns we'rent going to teamates enough, his mobility makes it pretty obvious he shouldnt be starting. We only deserved to lose tonight because of our play in the final third.
My only problem is goalie, I think Basso was the better keeper in pre season and will be the better player this season give Galusci league cup duty to get used to playing professional football at this level but Basso is the better player
Basso was definitely better in pre-season, he'll start on Tuesday, if he's half decent, I think he'll play in the league too.
