Scotland or Australia? In Scotland, the football might be of a lesser quality, but St. Johnstone are currently fourth in the Scottish Prem, and are having a decent time of it at the moment - they just beat fifth placed Ross County today, and might afford you more excitement than SAFC are doing right now. Give it a year, mate, and see how it goes. Good luck.

If it's the Aussie Perth, sorry, can't help.

are you dead happy where you are if not go for it, opportunities come your way very little and when they do grab with both hands or 20 years from now you could be saying what if i took that job, don't get stuck in a rut mate

Don't know how mobile your family situation is Tees, but it is an extremely difficult decision to make in any circumstances. I bottled it when I was younger and I am regretting it now having spent February and March over there the last couple of years. My wife and I have travelled quite a bit, but Western Australia is the best place we have ever been to, the weather is perfect and the scenery is beautiful, everything is geared to outdoor family life, the school curriculum include a set amount of time on water sports and outdoor pursuits so the kids get to try things that our kids never have the opportunity to. Cars, houses and fuel are about the same in Australian dollars as they are in pounds in the UK, prices in the Supermarkets are not that much different from over here. Eating out is reasonably cheap but alcohol is ridiculously expensive, a pint of Peroni is 14 dollars in the bars, a case of Stella is about the cheapest beer in the bottle shops and that was 48 dollars for a carton of 24 ( £12-£14 in the supermarkets over here).

I don't envy you your decision mate, the only thing I would say is don't worry about the area, it is modern, clean and safe. Have a look at this website for info

Having had the opportunity to take my family to Oz mate I'd say go for it, you will not regret it. We spent 3 amazing years there, kids and the missus loved it...and so did our dog (yes we took our dog). Sadly we are back now in the north east now more through circumstance than choice but we would not have changed a single thing. We would still be there had it not been for the circumstances that forced us back here. If you have friends and or family over there, even better...we didn't and we found that tough but we made great friends through work etc. Cost of living should be fairly comparable in Perth to here, but as someone had already said the grog is ridiculously expensive! Bacon and sausages are **** but you adapt. Tough choice mate, I don't envy you...we went through the mill but we'd go back in a heartbeat :)

All of you go then, away from this country as fast as you can. This country is dump mate. Don't waste your chance for you and your family to escape it.

Hope you don't mind me being nosy mate but what industry is it in?

Regardless, this could be a once in a lifetime opportunity so my advice would be to do as much research and find out about as much as possible before making a decision. (I'm sure you would anyway!)
