Are there any qualified coaches at any level on this forum?

I became a FA qualified Level 1 coach on Sunday and already have a coaching job at a local club. Just interested to see if there are any fellow coaches here, so we can share ideas, experiences, what it takes to get certain badges, what to expect on certain courses and more.

Anyone that's interested in starting up in coaching and wants to get the level 1 badge, ask any questions you want and i'll try to answer to the best of my knowledge :)

Also, to the mods, could you make this a sticky if it gets enough comments? Hopefully get some more people into coaching as it is a lot of fun if you are interested in football.

I got my level 1 a few years ago now but haven't renewed it with the FA. It's pretty much my back up plan if accounting goes tits up!

Never put it into proper use except to coach my younger bro's team for a couple of years

I would love to try and do something like coaching. My dad coaches junior football and he gets a buzz out of it (waits for jokes & abuse......). I highly doubt I will ever make the step and apply for coaching but whats it like? hows the courses etc. Being 20, my main focus at the moment is my upcoming masters degree and then looking for jobs etc. However, can coaching be part-time etc. Remember thinking a while back, how good would it be to be the first Asian manager in the Premiership. Nice Thread, something different. REP

I think OT was looking into this. Ironically McDonalds provide support for aspiring coaches, meaning that in a roundabout way obesity is key to our nation's sporting success.

This is something I'm also interested in, but like Singingitworks, I have education/career taking priority right now.

I can't comment on the cost question as I got put through it by my school during 6th form. I'm sure there are details on the fa website though.
With regards to what you can do with it, level 1 qualifies you to teach children up to the age of 10. You also get a basic first aid qualification as well as a child protection certificate.

I passed my Level 1 in June and am coaching at North Shields Juniors alongside a level 2 coach at under 11s in the coming season after helping out at under 10,s last year. If you are with a club usually they will pay for it although in some cases you may have to pay and get the money back gradually as some just get the qualification then leave which obviously the clubs cant afford. You can find the courses on the Northumberland F.A. website and they are held regularly at Benton and Ashington. Its a really good course, 4 monday evenings and 4 saturdays 9-1 with the test on the final saturday. Singingitworks, there was an asian lad on my course, a good player and nice lad, more people are needed from all colours, races, sexes and religions in coaching. Good luck.

I actually wanted to coach and decided to look into it a few months back but just didn't go ahead with it because it seemed too hard to join. I don't know any local teams in my area and just couldn't really get enough information on what things I am meant to do at each level. I wanted to actually make this my 1st priority and push to become a professional coach.

Agreed. I also thought about being the first Asian manager in the Premiership.

I wonder how the media would react..

Where do you live lil jatt? Level 1 probably the first course you should do. Also there are a few free basic courses you can do online on the F.A. Learning website to get you started. You should be able to get info on there also as to where local to you does the Level 1. The F.A. website also has info on local teams which you might be able to contact in your area. In north east where i am the local league websites for n.m.s.l. and the pinpoint recruitment junior football league also would give info on local teams here. Good luck.
