Beth, you blokes are top grade research scientists. You have serious stuff to offer and the sums and packages you mention are routine in our industry and will be audited and declared. Sharing your knowledge is the whole point of your work. Were those offers made in a West London sandwich shop? JFH is not even in the category of successful football managers. It does you great credit to want to believe the best of him, but even if he has done nothing technically wrong, the spirit is wrong, and we all know it. Dignity, respect and integrity, which along with quality as an aging man I am increasingly obsessed with as the only valuable things I can cling on to, all missing. But it's only a crappy football club, and if we all wake up to what a scam this game is, no bad thing. My bigger fear is that this is just a symptom of a more pervasive 'if I can get away with it, I'll do it' trend everywhere. But I still think most people know right from wrong and usually choose well.
Well said. More Del Boy than delicate and professional negotiation. Very sad but not at all surprising.
I'd be much more lenient on genuine Del Boys struggling to make ends meet even if in a dodgy way. I think JFH knows his next meal and mortgage payment are covered.
Wouldn't it be great if the Telegraph released footage of just one manager saying 'well, you are offering me payment for a service and also asking about selling players to my club. Even if not the intent, that could be interpreted as an inducement to do business with you and would not feel right to me. So thank you for your kind offer, but no thanks'. I won't hold my breath.
I know it is all audited and tax is paid Stan...but the point I was making is....this sort of money is offered to people to give lectures....as I am sure a few ppeople on here do not realise happens That bit of the interview where he pushes up the price he is to be paid...is not wrong or corrupt...just a sad indication of the greed and money available in society (and not only football)...that money is offered for a whole lot of hot air talk....BUT we cannot afford to pay enough nurses to run the NHS or pay some workers a living wage
Why shouldn't JFH think nothing of being offered £50k+ to speak? You may think it incredible, but here you are dealing with "football people" who think that they are something very special. This story would not have made the newspapers if it were alone. They have nothing on JFH except that he was offered a very large sum of money for a talk and the fact that they seemed to ask him about looking at their players and he joked hat he needed a centre forward, The telegraph have a lot of irons in the fire. They come up with a good story in Allardyce, the most serious part IMO is the offer of telling someone how to get round FA rules. Then they have a championship coach filmed taking a wad of cash. Now they can add whatever stories they want to that list and have them judged in the same light. I don't think that it will damage the club however it will become a distraction we could do without.
I think he'll earn more money from the Telegraph pay-out after the lawsuit than the £55k for the speech
just listened to Sky and they say Jimmy has clause in his contract to be able to speak to people on footballing things. They also say this conversation was done after the transfer window shut and if he wanted to do a dodgy deal he would have before then. The went on to say he handed over all his texts messages from the fictitious party to the club and they seem to support what JFH is saying. JFH also says the footage has been edited to make him look bad. I agree on the last point as I thought it had a lot of cuts in the footage when watching. So it would seem at this stage he hasn't done too much wrong.
http://www.skysports.com/watch/vide...97878/hasselbaink-devastated-over-allegations Link to the video Ellers refers to a robust response. He took training this morning For those who wanted him out...doesn't look as though he is going...and as I said above it will make it more difficult on a footballing basis to get rid of him just yet too.
If we go on the assumption that we can't play any worse on the pitch (we can) then this might create a bit of a siege mentality. Probably not. Can't wait for Saturday
Posted this on here earlier today. Jury is still out and maybe for awhile if the EPL think it substantial enough to take action.
If someone can show me some history of JFH giving inspiring speeches and that he is much sought after as a speaker on the circuit....then I'd be more convinced of his innocence....
