Went to bed when we were one down, so a little surprised that we managed to go ahead by 3. That Newcastle hauled it back and won is a kick in the guts, but I was actually expecting a 4 or 5 nil battering based on the early commentary. Oh well, cannot win them all and with our defensive back up, we will always be fragile.
Just so disappointing to lose at the death like that. Good to see we're scoring some too but that fragility or inability to close out from winning positions with confidence is a worry. Agree with earlier posters that defensive substitutions at that stage were a reasonable move but it's clearly rocked the boat. I feel for the travelling fans who were driving back after that finish. Anyway, 2nd in the table and onwards we go.
That was General you were replying to... I don't need your permission or approval, so don't really care about most of that waffle, Nice to know things that get to you though. It's a good job you never say anything positive or negative or about who we should have signed because he just scored a Hat-trick or anything, otherwise that would make you looks aright pr**k....
I'm not expecting to get much out of the Wolves game we will probably lose but wouldn't be surprised if we get a win or most likely a draw. That sets me up perfectly for the classic . " I said that we would (Insert result here) the other day."
Good sensible posts from both china and HQMC and after a night's sleep I'm gutted that once again our fragile defence has cost us. I still cannot believe that we conceded twice in 90 seconds, but at least the players can put things right on Saturday evening. As HQMC says, onwards and upwards!!! Edit: Just seen AN's comments on EDP website - "I feel frustrated, disappointed for them (the players) and with them. A whole range of emotions. I am sure they will be frustrated and angry with each other because they will feel they could have defended better themselves. It really was a bizarre end to a game we should have seen out.. We got ourselves into a position at 3-1 where we should be comfortable and we conceded a goal from a 60-yard straight ball down the middle of our team. We didn’t defend it properly and once Newcastle stuck two strikers on to try and get down the sides of us I brought another centre-back on. From that point we defended relatively well and it is 3-2 with 90 seconds left to see the game out. We don’t defend our box well enough. It is as simple as that.” Full story here - http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwic...pionship_defeat_to_newcastle_united_1_4715874 Says it all really and I wonder if we'll see any changes in the starting 11 on Saturday.
Alex Neil is a ****ing idiot!!! He did the same against Cardiff & Wigan! From a winning position he tries to see the game out by putting defensive players on. Those who were at those 2 games will know what I mean. We only just scrambled over the line in those games because of his tactical ignorance, this time it's come back to bite his arse, hopefully the teeth marks will be there for a long time to remind him!!! I was at the darts last night and the result flattened the atmosphere!
ILD, there are two ways of looking at this! Cardiff and Wigan, he shored up the defence and we scrambled over the line, last night we didn't, so going on previous results, he was right to tighten the defence. If he'd left things alone and we went on to lose, he would have been slated for not doing what he did v Cardiff and Wigan! Damned if you do and damned if you don't!
Just watched the 'highlights' from Sky Sports and as far as I could make out Bassong was the defender closest to the scorer of the last 3 Newcastle goals. He appeared slow and lumbering on each occasion and is clearly not going to perform under pressure. AN knows this and should have not risked him in such a vital match. I am still gutted 12 hours after a game we should have won
Exactly the same, it was painful to listen to so went to bed. Woke up (not intentionally) about 2 hours later to see we lost 4-3. Not bad I thought until I looked at the report - FFS how do you let in 2 goals in a minute right at the end of injury time? That is totally ridiculous and someone (or two or three) needs a swift kick in the gonads for that.
Just watched the Sky highlights - http://www.skysports.com/watch/vide...s/championship/10597460/newcastle-4-3-norwich and have to agree that Bassong is pretty useless and Martin wasn't much better!!! Tto be honest, Newcastle could easily have been out of sight by half time, but for some good saves from McGovern and poor finishing from Newcastle strikers.
Bassong should be shot or incarcerated for letting a nippy player like Gayle get goal-side of him for that abject second goal. With a sloth like him at the back any hopeful punt like that is bound to cause us problems - though no way it should have done McGovern played a blinder from reports and those highlights...until the 96th minute
To be fair when you're 3-2 up away at a good team with less than 20 minutes to go, you know the opposition is going to throw everything at you, and being defensive is a reasonable stance to take. The downfall was that your defenders seemed to thing the points were in the bag at the end and basically gave up; the defending on our last goals was woeful - first Gouffran is allowed a free header in the 6 yard box when surrounded by your defenders, then immediately afterwards you let Gayle walk through your entire defence. Surely the players have to take a big responsibility there?
But AN picks the players and he picked pretty much the same players who rolled over in several games last season and used the same tactics, so why on earth would he think it was going to be different this season especially against a team that were in the PL with us last season. As I've repeatedly bleated on about for months and months WE NEED TO SORT OUT OUR CB PAIRING without Klose to sort things out at the back we're f***ed. Both Martin & Bassong are clowns and incapable of organising our defence.
