We used to do trips to Sheffield ice skating, getting pissed on the bus was the main reason for going, barely anyone actually skated.
Art Wells Bookmakers... I was chatting with Arthur in Morrissons in Brough not so long ago, still looks the same and still as mad.. top bloke!!
Waddingtons Leather shop on Cott Road. Got my first proper leather biker jacket from there........very Marlon Brando it was.
I think I remember that as The Model Shop. Reminds me there was another good model shop near central library, opposite a Wimpey I think.
We went to Sheffield skating once with some Newland High School lasses in about 1976. One bird was georgeous and I tried every trick in the book but failed. Went to a house earlier this year to do a job and she opened the front door. Still lovely even 40 years later.
The cinema near Longhill was the Berkely in Greenwich Ave, Bilton Grange opened Nov. 1956. I was there opening day with schoolmate both aged 9, the film was Bus Stop with Marliyn Monroe, but they would not let us in because it was an A classification(needed adult supervision).
Was that Steven? Betty Hyde was my uncle's sister and I was in the same year as Steven at Riley. They used to live in one of the streets that backed onto Rileys playing fields.
