Curtis doing the presser with Mick this morning. please log in to view this image “They’ve scored four against Arsenal and the champions. They look a very potent threat in attack.” “People have spoken about their defensive frailty but you need to have the ball in their final third.” “It’s down to us to stay in the game on Saturday as long we possibly can and take any chances that come our way like Burnley did.” “Regardless of their pressing, when they have the ball, you have to make sure you’re on point.” “You need to be very alert for the full 90 minutes though because that’s when they’re most dangerous.” please log in to view this image “Every game is a challenge and an opportunity to get something from. Saturday will be no different.” “We’ve come a long way in a short space of time after the trials of pre-season and we will go to Anfield with confidence.” “Liverpool are firing on all cylinders this season, and it has all the ingredients of a fantastic football match.” “Hopefully we can learn from what happened in the Arsenal defeat, take it into the match on Saturday and give Liverpool a game.” Mike Phelan had more positive talks about becoming City manager on Sunday - "I'm waiting for answers".
I was worried he'd be dropped after playing mid week, Phelan instead going with Harry and Jake at the back, but this all but confirms he will be starting. Has to be the same team as the last few league games for me.
Im expecting Marshall to start, and hopefully Mason, Keane and Mkobani. Even young Harry I wouldn't mind starting tbh. Davies clearly knows his onions too. Liverpool are at their most dangerous for 90 mins. So, during the game then eh?
Would like to see Marshall, Mason and Mbokani in for the weekend, it needs freshening up, and Mason is likely to look after the ball better then Meyler
Keane's got no more chance of starting than I have. Livermore should be back in at centre back, we need some pace at the back against Liverpool and other than the handball, he's been faultless.
Ah yeah he's not banned for 3 games is he? Fair enough, yeah I'd have Jakey back in. Mike's got some decisions to make tomorrow, be interesting to see what he does.
Marshall Elmo Livermore Davies Robbo Clucas Mason Thudd Snodgrass Mbokani Hernandez Mbokani and Hernandez either way round, or stick Henriksen on for Hernandez, Mbokani needs to start. My concern that he leaves Dio in, as he thinks Robertson needs help defensively, though Mbokani there probably sorts that.
Seems a bit strange that Phelan had what he described as further positive talks on Sunday re the permanent job, then hasn`t heard anything since, listening to him and his demeanor, it seems like he is happy with the deal and is happy to sign, but yet again the Allams seem to be dragging their heels. Just give the man a contract ffs and stop ****ing around
I don't think that's the case. If he was happy with deal it would be done by now. I think he knows he's in a strong position and is happy to bide his time to get the best deal for him. The longer it goes on, the stronger his position becomes to a degree. It's already been stated that other teams will start sacking managers and phalans start to the season has not gone un-noticed.
He was asked in this mornings interview, which has been repeated on Sky and said as much that he is happy with the details, had held talks on Sunday but hasn`t heard anything since, I suspect and he illuded to it that the problem seems to be the ongoing `purchase` of the club. He appeared slightly frustrated that he hadn`t heard back
I do like the look of that! Surely he can't leave Dio in can he? I actually thought Dio might start against Stoke, knowing that he wouldn't be playing against Liverpool. Obviously that didn't happen, so either he was saving him, or dropping him altogether. It's a shame for the lad as his work rate is immense (that alone is the reason he may play), but he's got a touch like a Hessle Road hooker! (apparently)
After the Stoke game I`d be amazed if he left Marshall out, and tbh if he kept Meyler in, we need to keep possession as much as we can against these lot, Meyler I suspect is colour blind, cos he just can`t seem to pass to one of ours.
Ahh ok, I didn't see that, It seems a bit odd to me, surely all of the linked consortia would be happy with MP as manager wouldn't they? Must be frustrating for him!
Given his replies, which were very careful, it did seem to me that he was frustrated, but then he mentioned that he had spoken to the Allams after the presser last week, so it may be that they are looking to do that, I just don`t know and I suspect neither does he. Ray Wilkins was asked about it and said he felt it totally disrespectful to Phelan the way it has been strung along.
Don't forget John Motson's pronouncement that there was a saying that Liverpool are at their most dangerous when behind. Obviously more dangerous when two down than when three up. Should we take the risk of scoring first?
