Henderson has some rare qualities, qualities that separate the best players from the rest. The way he moves with the ball, the way he controls the ball and the way he passes the ball along the turf are all absolute standout qualities in Henderson and he could be brilliant in a team playing expansive and open football. It's amazing how many people do not appreciate the quality of passing a ball with the correct impact so that it travels crisply and with the right weight. Compare Anderson to Scholes - they are worlds apart in this capacity yet the young fan boys think Anderson is a good player because he may try a stepover. Modric, Xavi, Iniesta pass the ball correctly, and so does Henderson. However, Henderson has some stinking qualities. He is terrible at using his body, NEVER makes a tackle and is quite appaling under pressure. Scholes is possible one of the best players ever at using his body and being superb under pressure, Henderson could learn from him possibly. If Bruce could work to improve the poor aspects of Henderson's game we could have a quality of player we would never usually have a chance to own. I'm not convinced he'll ever improve those weaknesses enough that he'll be an excellent player, however. Welbeck and cash for Henderson may be worth thinking about. Bruce will have to weigh it up.

It really is a conundrum this rumour. A few points I've considered:

    A/ Is it true?
B/ If true, is it a step forward or a step backwards.
1 - Forward: The £20 million would be reinvested in the club, both the youth facilities and the playing staff. Our team would benefit and if we could get Welbeck involved in the deal we would be able to sign that striker we are going to have to sign in the summer without too much faffing about. (examples of faffing about transfers of Bent, Gyan and Sessegnon)
2 - Backward: Selling off our young talent means we will always be a selling club, especially if we have sold two of our best talents in the space of 6 months. Other clubs would then know that all our players would have a price and that we are a team that is only interested in the short term.
C/ I can't seen Jordan being here for his whole career. He is an exceptional player with heaps of promise and sooner or later he is going to move to a bigger club, I don't mean that as a lack of respect to ourselves, but in the pecking order it is going to take a huge investment by the owner to push us on from a team with top 6 ambitions, to a team with top 4 ambitions. Look at the clubs above us, 2 out of 5 have sugar daddy owners who are willing to plough money into the club. Another 2 are two of the biggest and richest clubs in the world in earnings alone. Only Spurs are in a similar position to ourselves (admittedly 4-5 years down the line) in that they are not backed by a huge money making institution or a sugar daddy and you know that if a big enough offer comes in, Spurs will sell their players.
D/ Will Jordan want to move? Like it or not, Man Utd are one of the best clubs in the world for bringing in players (in particular young players) and helping them be all they can be. Jordan's work ethic and class on the ball fits perfectly with Sir Alex Ferguson's ethos of what a Man Utd player should be and we all know that Jordan would flourish in their team.
E/ I don't want the club to sell him

In conclusion, I hope we do not sell him yet, but think he will only be around for more than another 2 years tops before making the step up to a genuine top-4 team.

agree totally, I also think that the fact that he's English (agian not being racisit) should add another 5mill to his value. The kid has the world at his feet, just need to continue to keep his head.

    For a player who

hits first man corners every. single. time.
    cant tackle.
runs around like a headless chicken.
    is terrible under pressure.

    £20 million? I'd take 20p!

Yes, im prepared for the backlash, nobody could say anything against the local lad "gifted" Henderson on 606. I hope some people can see past his stupid hair and see him for what he is. A truly average footballer.

Interesting debate this one. Do you think we can disguise Colback as Henderson, keep the Real Henderson and still have 20million?! Haha

Put it this way, Darren Bent + 10million is a great sell seeing as we replaced him with Muntari + Sessegnon, although we still need a striker.

Brucies on about making a BIG striker signing in the summer, (Hulk please!) which shows our ambition. For me, if Riveros can get his act together (In Bruce we trust), in theory he can be as good as Jordan - don't laugh. Ok atm hes a bit off the pace, but is an excellent passer and keeps the midfield flowing, similarly to Hendo. Put him in that role, alongside Muntari- Play Catts holding with Sessgnon, Gyan + 1 other (Welbeck when fit/ Campbell/ Elmo/ Steed/ Richardson - 'Oh the options!') we are looking at a fairly decent team WITHOUT Henderson.

Other option is we reinvest the 20mil on a world-class midfielder. Lets be honest England's hardly the hot bed of footballing talent we want to see is it? For 20million you could get a player like Lassana Diarra.

We aren't far off challenging for Champions league IMO. If we could keep Hendo and that one we sold, we would have been laughing but we did what we didnt do in 2000, took a risk by gaining some capital and trying to push on.

Simple answer to Mr Ferguson. Welbeck + 10mil = Deal. Tbh i'd take Welbeck + 5mil and even thats us getting a good deal

I would snap their hands off for 20 million, Jordan has been put on a pedastel far higher than his ability shows purely because he is a local lad, if you take away the local connection more supporters would have a more balanced view about him.

    Couldn't agree more!

Honestly, if Henderson ever plays for ENG again whilst he is at Sunderland, I'll eat my hat. And then post a link of me eating my hat, just to prove I done it.

You right Poolie, I would let Henderson go, it's good business for us & a good move for him, & yes try and involve Wellbeck as well
