Good to see the heavies will be knocking each other out of the competition. Increases the odds of us getting a decent draw in the last 8 if we beat Brizzle. Maybe I was being rash earlier. TWS in the semi-final will do, after beating Newcastle in the quarters
Wouldn't it. Problem is, if it happened, I'd have to suffer a transatlantic flight with one of their ex-players to watch the game.
I'd rather not say, other than he played in the very early 80's for them and was a forward (Div 1 and Div 2) under managers Allan Clarke & Eddie Gray. We played in an old timers league together after he came over here with his Canadian wife. We get together every now & again for a few beers to reminisce about LUFC & City frequently. I lived in Leeds for 7 years during the Revie era, so we have a lot to remember & chat about. Great lad, and we'd undoubtably make the trip back home if the match came to pass. His dad used to live in Melton, so he's also a fan (sort of) of City.
Believe that is the third goal of the match to make it 1-2. After Waggy scored his equalising second he celebrated by swinging on a post. Hope the search continues for the full match highlights which feature the controversial handball by Ron Harris which denied us a third in the last few minutes. Appreciation also from me to Quill.
Brilliant memory there - you're correct in recalling Waggy's "swinging on a post antics". Make's much more sense if it was an equalizing goal.
I think the handball was actually by John Boyle - he was covering the middle of the goal and appeared to scoop the ball off the line as a header beat Peter Bonetti. We were at the other end of the ground but it did look pretty obvious and we were amazed that Jack Taylor missed it. I don't recall having seen a video but there is a good photograph of it somewhere - I think it was included with the replay programme or even in a series of photographs printed as a loose sheet summarising the season and included in the final match/promotion celebration programme. It was a "grand day out" despite our coach breaking down at Biggleswade on the way down.
Back on topic... Ryan Mason shows class in Hull City's EFL Cup win over poor Stoke outfit please log in to view this image Hull City reached the last 16 of the EFL Cup for the third time in four years as picture-book goals from Ryan Mason and Markus Henriksen completed a comeback to defeat Premier League rivals Stoke City. The Tigers, who retained just three players from the weekend defeat to Arsenal, could count themselves fortunate to emerge as winners from a game dominated by their hosts, but it was another feather in Mike Phelan's cap as caretaker boss. This was the very first time that Hull City have won an away game to progress to the League Cup fourth round. Positives A team thrown together lacked fluency and control but the spirit that has been a trademark of the season helped Hull City over the line. There was much to like about the fresh faces making full debuts. Mason and Henriksen played on the fringes of the game before their exceptional finishes overturned Marko Arnautovic's opener, while goalkeeper David Marshall was to thank for keeping his new team in the game on debut. Former Manchester United youngster James Weir, making his full debut in senior football, also showed an effervescent attitude as a makeshift right-back. Negatives Hull City's passing game was dreadful throughout the first half, inviting Stoke City on to launch a host of attacks. David Meyler was culpable on an off night in midfield but he was not alone in squandering possession too often. Of the six summer signings making their first starts, it was Will Keane who struggled to leave his mark. The young forward has not played much football in 2016 and it showed in a rusty, undercooked performance on the right side of the attack. http://www.espnfc.co.uk/club/hull-c...hull-citys-efl-cup-win-over-poor-stoke-outfit
I've still got my scrap book from then and its full of newspaper photos of that game especially a huge double pager of waggy hanging off the side nets - I also think it was on anglia
If you went to the game, you will know Marshall was better than OK. It's a no brainer that he should start on Saturday
It was Johhny Boyle ,apart from the result the highlight was walking back to the car with the old man and his mates ,one of whom many years later won 20 million on the lottery, and a Fulham supporter pulled up and congratulated us.Happy days
Brillant win, will do the confidence of the team no end of good. Deano got heaps of abuse on twitter last night for that comment from Brizzle fans, but I think he was enjoying it.
Our game improved a lot when Weir went into midfield and Elmo went to right back. I liked Mbokani's ceaseless workrate while being fed scraps.
I couldn't get to the game, unfortunately, but from what I heard on the radio, it was typical of a side that hadn't played together before. This then proves that MP was right not to throw the new signing into the league side too quickly. However can see now on Saturday Marshall replacing Jak, Meyler being replaced by Mason, and Dio making way for Mbokani.
On the local news last night, I had to smile at the Man U players getting off their coach at Northampton. As expected, lots of fans there waiting to see them. Unexpected, and amusingly, they were all booing and jeering them. Especially Ibra. Made me laugh.
