I always end up having a row when some if our friends come round for a party, and they all shout "Put on some 80's music" then look at me like I've grown another two heads when I put on Sisters of Mercy, The Mission, Depeche Mode, Pop Will Eat Itself, Spear of Destiny etc when they are expecting ****ing Haircut 100, Duran Duran, Kajagoogoo and all that other bland 80's stuff!! "That's not proper 80's music" they always shout - "but it's what I listened to then" is always my reply. Unfortunately, after my CD collection gets rummaged through, and they never find what they are after, the iPod goes on and connects to the mainstream 80s for them, whilst I sulk in the corner nursing a large beer!!!
I loved the first two Pogues albums, but they went a bit mainstream after the third album, almost losing their punk edge (although, even now, they are great live!)
Ahhh, a good bit of Gedge.....they've just toured this album, I think (sold out, so I couldn't go) Another fave off that album...
4AD was a great record label, with loads of great, shoe-gaze bands on their books....I remembering buying the 4AD compilation album, Lonely is an Eyesore, and virtually played it to death!!
