http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/triathlon/37402716 One brother giving up victory to help his stricken brother over the line is a sight to behold. An unbelievable show of sportsmanship and humanity.
I have to say, the South African i a bit of a **** as if it had been me I'd have helped Ali drag his brother over the line. It was a hollow victory for him.
Ali was in 3rd place with Jonny winning, Jonny collapsed from exhaustion and got overtaken by the dude in 2nd, then Ali caught up with him and helped him over the line in front of him, so Ali kept his 3rd place finish rather than giving up a gold medal as you're suggesting. Still awesome to see though.
Apparently if Ali had won that race, he would have won the whole series and with his brother down, he was ahead of the SA lad.. just when Jonny crumbled .Because he didn't win and helped Jonny (he had to win to get the series) he lost the series. It was an even bigger sacrifice than just one race it seems.
I don't think that's correct. Jonathan Brownlee would have won the championship if he had won the race, not Alistair.
Alistair and the South African seemed to be neck and neck in 2nd/3rd when Ali stopped to help Jonny, so he could have won the race as he obviously would have passed his brother. That's how it appeared to me from the footage.
Honestly, I couldn't love my brother more but if that was us I'd of pushed him over and would fully expect the same if the tables were turned!
