Awoke this am with no internet access (hooray is the chorus from not606) and enjoyed that peculiar experience of the Broadband Helpline. This one is SSE and I have to say it's 300% better than TalkTalk or BT. I still however had a couple of the surreal moments that only such call centres can supply. 1) My address is not valid, it does not exist according to SSE. 2) Though it was installed when I transferred to them my BT openreach fibre box also does not exist and would never work with their supplied router. We struggled though this and several "are you sure" moments before they shared the fact that 20 addresses in my area have also reported loss of service. Fear not though, BT are on the case and hope to have it resolved by next Tuesday. Good job I'm not paying anyone lots of money for this service, oh hold on . . . . . . Thank god for Sainsburys free wifi.
Just finished the last vestiges of lunch. One thing of special note. I've always preferred Linguine over Spaghetti, and when I've bought it I've always tried to get really good stuff because the texture is potentially so good. Consequently, of dried pasta, I often have the De Cecco brand as the linguine, because it is very good indeed. Well the other day I picked up some deluxe linguine from Lidl for 75p for 500g. Normally, De Cecco would be more than double that. After cooking the Lidl deluxe linguine, that's the last time I buy De Cecco. My goodness, the Lidl linguine is absolutely superb. If you see a packet, buy loads. I made an initial buy of two packets and I wish I'd bought six.
Just got a message from Bowie's sound engineer - "David would have loved your version of Let's Dance"... *has a proud cry*
After 20 months of caring for my wife (she's in remission now, so happy days), I returned to work in August. I am now an employee of Lidl and work at their colossal new depot at Nursling (€80m to build apparently) which isn't yet operational owing to construction delays. During the training process, (4 weeks at Weston Super Mare, all expenses paid) it has been eye opening to see the company's professionalism and the quality of their fresh products. It would come as no surprise, to me, if their own brand pasta was actually produced by one of the big, known brands (I will try and find out) as other products are, such as Perlenbacher lager (Heineken), some yogurt products (Muller - we were actually told that Lidl now own Muller. Don't know if that is true or bravado) and some power tools (Bosch) but with different plastic casings. If people haven't shopped there before, it's definitely worth having a look, especially at the fresh meat and bread.
I buy fresh meat from lidl quite a lot, better quality than asda/tesco etc. & a fraction of the price.
Our lidl has been knocked down to make a much bigger store....will definitely have a wander round when they reopen.......big fan of Aldi as well.
First of all, brilliant news about your wife I'm an Aldi fan, myself rather than Lidl, only because it's on my route home. I buy all my baking stuff there and their bacon is yummy but my favourite product of theirs is their French butter croissants. In fact, I'm eating one as I type now I'm happy to buy my veg from there but tend to steer clear of the fruit as it goes off very quickly and is sometimes mouldy on the shelves. I know it means that it hasn't been sprayed with chemicals and preservatives but I do like my fruit to last more than a day. Hope you enjoy your new job, StB and get lots of discount
